Ive seen this movie at least 150 times and it still makes me cry. I have to watch this movie at least once every 6 months. I finally got to try some fgtomatoes a couple of months ago...Im hooked.

Fried Green Tomatoes is definitely THE best movie I have ever seen. This movie was very well put together. Not a single element of this movie (music, characters, settings) seem out of place. Everything comes together very well, which makes the who...le story seem very believeable from beginning to end. This movie makes you laugh...it makes you cry. As corny as it may sound, this movie just makes you feel good after watching it. Kathy Bates, Jessica Tandy, Mary Stuart Masterson, and Mary-Louise Parker all give very convincing performances and play characters that you can't help to love. This movie is great for people ages 8 to 80. There are parts of the movie that any person will love. It's incredibly funny in some seens and incredibly sad in other seens. If you do not cry at some point while watching this movie, you musn't be human. Watch it, it's a fabulously done movie with a great story and an awsome cast! Read more Less

Fannie Flagg's book and screenplay, nominated, yet not winners for a Pulitzer Prize or for an Oscar is strange. The classic storylines will allow both the book and the movie to live for a very long time. Jon Avnet should have taken credit for hi...s screenplay contributions. Filmed before computer graphic interfaces were everywhere, --the lightning is real - the rain is real - the bee charmer is the actress, not a stunt double. This one facet is but one example of why the movie is such a charmed experienced. It has an ALL STAR cast. Just a few of the issues bubbling in the movie: Racism and the KKK; Importance of intergenerational relationships; spousal abuse; physically challenged children; the sad shape of nursing homes -- and how we all may end up there someday; the loss of a sibling; the importance of finding love; how to cope with the loss of a love; the culture of the Deep South in America; how justice is achieved both in and out of the courtroom; how moral justice can become beholden to legal procedures; the importance of platonic love; why alternative families should be recognized since they exist in reality -- both from sexual preference to adoption issues; self - esteem; menopause; realization that finding one's calling can happen at anytime in life -- if you just keep looking; the importance of relationships influencing life; the desire to help others if not for altruistic rationales -- something very close to that sense of giving; religion -- how hypocritial and yet important a factor it can hold in one's life.
