Pros: THE JASON WAS GREAT
Cons: IT NEEDED MORE SEENS WITH JASON
SINCE 1980 I LOVED THE FRIDAY THE 13TH MOVIES. PEOPLE DID NOT BELEVE THAT JASON WAS THERE. HE DROWNED IN 1958. HIS MOM WAS THE COOK FOR CAMP. ANNIE GOT A RIDE FROM A TRUCKER. ANNIE STOPED BY A GAS STATION .SHE SAW A PRETTY DOG. ANNIE SAID HI , GIRL , IT WAS A BOY. THE GUY AND ANNIE TALKED TO
THE TRUCKER. HE SAID WHERE ARE YOU GOING? ,I AM A COOK FOR A CAMP. HE SAID QUIT AND GET OUT. WHY SHE SAID ? IN 1958 A BOY WAS SWIMMING AND HE DROWED AND THE TENNS DID NOT WATCHED HIM . ANNIE WALKED TO THE CAMP. JASON CAN
SEE HER AND KILL HER . THE PEOPLE SAID CAN WE HELP? STEVE ASKED FOR HRLP. BRENDA,
IF ANNIE SHOW UP HAVE HER HELP YOU? THE KIDS SAID WE CAN HELP. A BOY GOES THIS IS CAMP BLOOD .
Pros: ?
Cons: ?
I love this movie! It keeps you scared throughout the whole film. There's little parts in this movie when there is talking and no killing, but even those pats are entertaining! Mrs. Vorrhees is a great killer! The killing scenes look realistic! I like the part when Mrs. Vorrhees is under the bed and she stabs right through the bed and through the pillow, right into the guy's neck is awesome! Blood everywhere! It looked so real! If you like gore/suspense/slashers, then you will love this one. I also recommend Halloween. Really scary!
Pros: Musician/Movie Critic
Cons: Im Not Sure
In my personal opinion, this film deserves credit for the special effects, the score, plot, originality.
I liked it but Jason X was better. Not scary actually none of them are. Halloween was better but i still liked this film. Rent it.
Among slasher movies, this one is a classic.
However the most frequently missed question is
who was the killer in the first Friday the 13th. For gods sake it is not Jason! It is his
mother, who is an excellent killer,by the way.
Friday the 13th has inventive death scenes and moderate acting, what more can you ask from a good slasher movie.
AHHHHH The first of the long and neverending series of F13's is the best one of all. It is raw with realistic acting, and realistic death scenes. The old man is a real hoot. Betsy Palmer is creepy as hell ( she looks kinda like my mother EEEEEK! ). It's always a pleasure to see Kevin Bacon in his early years, but not a pleasure to see him in his speedos. That of course doesn't hurt the movie in any way. Anyways, the music is great and haunting with the classic ch ch ch HAH HAH HAH. So rent this bad mother trucker and enjoy the screaming!!!
I'm quite a horror flik fan and I'm well aware of the fact there are not enough if not a select few movies in this genre that are actually GREAT. Most really do suck cause of the excess cheesiness! :-))
But this movie which is seriously underated is to me as scary as it can get.
It IS very realistic. People do go to camp, people do hitchhike and not for nothing ... It IS very possible and VERY easy for some psycho to plan out , stalk and take out a group as Mrs Voorhes does here.
The actual killings are with out a doubt monumental. Sure Pycho was in fact the mother of slasher.. .WAY before another one of my faves Halloween. But this one just took it to new heights.. Like how many ways can I take them out?? But ..
What makes this installment of this series the BEST one of them all and that lacks in all the followups after Part 2 and some degree 3 and 4 is the fact that you absolutely have no idea who or where the killer is !! You never see what you think is a he . You NEVER see the killer . And even when you do find out you are right in the sole survivors shoes when she does find out who did it when Voorhees snaps as shes lechures her about who was her son Jason.
It's the STALKING that makes it scary when I watch it over and over. The blackness and tone of the camp , the rain. The vibes that are put out like when Marcie talks of her premonition ( rain turning to blood) of her murder that occurs here.
Over all the vibe of stalking, doom, gloom and what Friday The 13th truly is is captured to a tee in the original . That it is . The others up to 4 to me are good but don't touch this!
Yeah . this is one for the horror books without question. My fave since I first saw it!
CH CH CH CH THAT makes it too!!!
This is the kick off for all of the Friday the 13th films. Yes you have to admit that some of the Friday the 13th movies dont make sense, and just arent scary, but this is absolutely the best one. It just takes you back to seeing it in the theaters. I highly recomend anyone see this, if they didnt already. The movie does not include Jason with his mask, but does have some freaky parts. This is my favorite series of slasher flicks.....watch it, love it, own it!!!!!!!!
The one that started it all, which is amazing, since this is a pretty mediocre movie, even by slasher standards. What set this apart at the time was its realistic and excessively gory special effects (courtesy Tom Savini) which were unlike anything seen in a major studio (Paramount) release. The story is simple: twenty years ago, little Jason Voorhees (supposedly) drowned in the waters of Camp Crystal Lake as a result of negligent camp counselers, who were later murdered. Now, someone is butchering counselers at the very same camp, just before its grand re-opening. Is it the legendary Jason? Apart from the gory effects (axe in the face, arrow through the neck, several slit throats) and one or two decent jolts (particularly the Carrie-like finale), this is a rather boring and slow moving movie. There's not even much skin to speak of, so it's pretty surprising that this took off the way it did. Still, it's one of the better in the series (not that that's saying much) and you could certainly do worse at the video store on a Saturday night. Kevin Bacon has an early role as one of the counselers! Followed by a ridiculous number of sequels.
WHAT CAN I SAY? I LOVE SLASHER FILMS! THIS IS THE MOTHER OF ALL SLASHER FLICKS(HALLOWEEN BEING THE DADDY!) WISH DVD HAD DELETED SCENES
(FILM WAS CUT TO AVOID THEN X RATING) AND DIRECTOR'S COMMENTARY ON MAKING OF THE FILM, WOULD HAVE BEEN A PLUS. BUT ONE FOR THE DVD COLLECTION THOUGH.
ALTHOUGH MANY CRITICS SAY IT IS A 1 STAR FILM, IT RANKS ON THE TOP TEN OF ALL TIME. AN ENTERTAINING AMERICAN CLASSIC YOULL WANT TO WATCH AGAIN AND AGAIN, FRIDAY THE 13TH IS YOUR TICKET TO THRILLS AND CHILLS. ONE OF THE SCARIEST MOVIES FOR SURE.
I love this movie but i think the rest with jason in are the best they rule.
This is one of five greatest slasher flicks of all time the others being:
1)Halloween
2)Friday the 13th
3)Psycho
4) Texas Chainsaw massacre
5) A nightmare on elm street
Way better on DVD
As far as eighties slashers go, I praise this as the original and best, with a few wonderful twists and great Tom Savini gore and make-up effects (Kevin Bacon's arrow-thru-the-neck death is excellent). Wait until Part 2 to catch Jason in the act, though.
I thought the movie really kept me thinking who the killer was. It keeps you into the movie!! I thought it was Jason, but at the end you find it's her mom. But she then tells her story (watch the movie). This is a must-see and must-have for all F13th fans!!
This movie is always criticized by saying how it is a Halloween rip-off. That is just like saying Halloween is a rip-off of Psycho. And on and on. Halloween invovled a dude killing his family cause he was psycho. Friday The 13th invovled revenge. Many other movies were inspired by this movie. The deaths were great.
The movie starts off at Camp Crystal Lake in 1958. 2 counselors are killed by someone unknown. Then it cuts to present day and we see Annie (Robbi Morgan) who hitches a ride with the killer and gets her neck slit. Then we see Ned (Mark Nelson), Jack (Kevin Bacon), and his girlfriend Marcie (Jeaninne Taylor) arrive at crystal lake. They meet the owner Steve Christy (Peter Brouwer). Then they meet Alice (Adrienne King). Alice goes to tell Bill (Harry Crosby) that they need more paint.
Then Steve goes into town to pick up supplies and night time falls and the counselors are picked off one by one. Ned gets his neck slit after he sees someone in the cabin, Jack gets an arrow through his throat, and Marcie gets an axe to the face. Bill and Alice play monopoly with Brenda (Laurie Bartnam). She goes to close the windows to her cabin and is shot with arrows.
Bill and Alice begin to fall in love and Bill goes to fix the emergency generator. He doesn't return, so Alice goes to look for him and finds his body attached to the door with arrows. Then she starts to find all the bodies and Mrs.Voorhees (Betsy Palmer) arrives and she is revealed to be the killer cause her son Jason (Ari Lehman) drowned and the counselors weren't paying attention. So she tortures Alice until Alice decapitates her. Then Alice gets into a canoe and Jason pulls her under water and she wakes up in the hospital knowing Jason is still out there.
After seeing it I thought Jason was the killer. But after finding every camp conselour getting slaughtered, I figured it was him. But near the end I find out it's Jason's mom Pamela who blamed them for Jason's death. Jason drowns in the pool, and none of the camp conselours payed attention that's cause some of them were making love. So he drowns, and he also witnesses his mom get her decapitated at the end of the movie. I really liked it.
Jason is truly the best slasher killer in a horror movie. HE is truly unpredictable
This kicks off one of my favorite series in the horror genre. I can watch it over and over. You should too! The DVD quality is superb!
It's REALLY GOOD! REALLY!!! Actually if you're used to scary movies then you won't think it's scary. But it's really GOOD.
This classic horror is the 1st and most terrifing slashers of all time. If you love collecting movies than this needs to be on the top of your list!
this muvie is scary! mrss Voriss is the pirfact mother you love to hate, and it's grate how she was so cazy that she talk like Joson was in her. The actoress did a nice job setting the plot too.
I love this movie. I am totally addicted! It makes me want to go to a summer camp. Harry Manfredini is the MAN! The music is just to DIE for! Har-har! I have seen this movie a million times, I think. Bubbachomp.
There's something truly unsettling about taking something so innocent as a summer camp and making it the theme of a mass slaughter. There's something about this movie, the fact that Jason's not even IN it, that makes the movie unbelievably frightening. The others in the series are your typical hack 'em and stack 'em horror movies, and while this one is not all the different, there's a tone of originality in it. Because of the fact Jason doesn't make a physical appearance, and because of the fact children never are present at camp......and of course because of the fact Kevin Bacon is in it.... this movie is a good guaranteed fright !
Friday the 13th pt. 1 started the whole gateway for our main man Jason. Mommy dearest does the killing and does an exillent job in doing so. An A+ in my book.
This movie was,I think, the best in the series! It
had my favorite character Bill and another one of my
favorites Alice! First Barry and Claudette gets knifed and
then Annie gets her throat slahed. Then Ned gets his
neck slit,Jack(a young Kevin Bacon) gets stabbed
through the neck with an arrow,Marcy gets an axe to the
face,Brenda gets shot with arrows,Steve gets stabbed in the
stomach and then Bill(Harry Crosby,Bing Crosby's son)
gets riddled to the door with arrows! That was the
saddest part! I dug up a unused script by Sean Cunningham
where Bill and Alice survive and the people die in this
order:Barry,Claudette,Bre
nda,Steve,Annie,Marcy,Ned
,and Jack. This was a cool movie!!!
