  • All Music Guide

In Search of a Rose is an alternative Celtic-rock group from Germany. They are a well-produced band whose members are highly skilled at their respective instruments. Although they exude plenty of attitude, they're not obsessed with slapping you upside the head at every turn, nor do they feel that singing songs about whiskey is the primary means of legitimizing their existence within the genre. ISOAR is anchored by Daniel Eberhard on vocals, banjo, mandolin and bouzouki, and Maze on vocals, mandolin, and banjo, but invaluable support is provided by Vio on tin whistle and Eddie on accordion. Guests Johannes Schiefner (uilleann pipes) and Susanne Hill (fiddle) also make significant contributions on Fresh Lotus Surprise. By way of comparison, In Search of a Rose utilizes the melodic sense and stylistic versatility of Goats Don't Shave and the aggressive edge of Men They Couldn't Hang. They could also serve as a model group for part-time Celtic rockers like Young Dubliners, who flirt with t...he concept but fail to take the full plunge. - Dave Sleger, All Music Guide Read more Less

Despite their German roots, their original songs suggest a Celtic sound with other European influe... Read more
