The ultimate punk album of the 80s.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 25, 2001

Jello Biafra's odd singing and songwriting are reason enough to pick up the most influential wackiest albums ever made. Tackling fascism, boredom, and other depressing topics with vigor and humor, these songs are wild. From the mustard gas-on-the-gol...f club fantasy of "Chemical Warfare", to the kooky "Stealing People's Mail" to the classics "Holiday In Cambodia" and "California Uber Alles", and a wicked funny cover of "Viva Las Vegas", Jello is a genius. And just listen to how fast he sings the verses of "Drug Me"! Oh yeah. Read more Less

    Re: Vintage Hardcore

Its amazing to think that this stuff I was listening to back in 8th grade is still being listened to by young people today! That's actually kind of scary in some ways. It does show how weak today's music is though, that kids have to listen to stuff... from 20 years ago (even great stuff like DK). At any rate, this is one of the classic albums of all time of all rock music not just punk. It was truly original stuff in terms of the lyrical content and very intellectual. I gave it a 4 rather than a 5 though, because I always felt that DK relied too much on profanity, particularly in later works. Not that this would be unusual today, but was less accepted 20 years ago (of course punk rock did use profanity quite often). At any rate, California Uber Alles is one of the greatest songs of all time, and the sequel We've Got a bigger Problem Now (which is on "In God we Trust Inc.") are extremely creative lyrically. And how can you dislike a band that hated both Jerry Brown AND Ronald Reagan? Read more Less

    Great Punk

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 5, 2000

The great thing about this is, although it is punk and rather aggressive, some of the songs have a real hook on them. Kill the poor for one, works well as the opener because it is so listenable. There's the menacing crawl of Holiday in Cambodia and l...ater a cover of Viva Las Vegas, these songs shouldn't be one the same album, but they are and it works, though this is mainly down to the sarcasm evident in the Viva. . cover. The guitar isn't as full as it could have been, but it doesn't takeaway, Biafra's vocals are a bit of an acquired taste, but he can spit venom with the best of them.Throw away your Offspring stuff and buy this, you won't regret it.
