Despite being cancelled after only 18 episodes, the subsequent cult built up around the FREAKS AND GEEKS television series has seen the show's popularity skyrocket. Internet campaigns and strong word-of-mouth have lead to a burgeoning fanbase which has clamored for the release of the shows. Now finally available, the program is presented here in its entirety. Set in 1980, the show ostensibly follows two groups of high school kids (the "freaks" and the "geeks") as they attempt to navigate the pitfalls of adolescence. Among the colorful characters are the Geeks: Bill, Sam, and Neil, three awkward pre-teen friends undergoing some excruciating, but funny, growing pains. The Freaks are a group who revolve around Sam's older. army-jacket-clad sister, Lindsay, a talented mathematician undergoing various crises of confidence involving life, college, and her on-again, off-again stoner boyfriend. It all adds up to a potent mixture that is moving, funny, and grounded in a reality which accurately captures the often painful experience of being a teenager.

    An outstanding collection for the 80's generation

    I didn't realize how expensive this is- I got it when it first came out too. Very random on my part; if you are a by-product of the 1980's you'll appreciate the beauty and intelligence of Freaks and Geeks. It was a shame that it was cance...lled, from what I understand it did have a cult following. It addresses all the issues and experiences we went through; the dogma of establishment. Some don't understand why the 80s were important, it was a time when we witnessed a plethora of happenings that wound up shaping the world we live in now. Current events are not new just history repeating itself. I'm not saying that all generations are not influenced in some way or another, far from that. The acting alone is very awesome, the writing is top notch and there is no bad stone, the premise of understanding is a concept that is starting to develop in teenagers and young adults now; the questioning of authority and the - "What am I going to do now " cycle of life. I see what is happening and it is sad but I certainly wish there was more dignity and pride for our country, whether this has anything to do with Freaks and Geeks, I don't know but I loved the darn thing. I highly recommend it to anyone- it's funny, charming, emotional, you name it. A+ Read more Less

    Pros: wonderfully written & acted

    Cons: that is was cancelled!

    This was a great show! I am sorry that it was cancelled so soon! I love the episode where they had a house party and the beer was switched to non alcholic and no one knew but people were "drunk" anyway. Priceless! So glad its on DVD now.
