A Belgian composer, arranger, pianist and bandleader, Boland co-lead with Kenny Clarke Europe's finest orchestra the Clarke-Boland big band in the '60s and early '70s. Boland had conservatory training and wrote arrangements for Bobby Jaspar, Bernard Peiffer, Henri Renaud and Fats Sadi. Then he worked in Paris as a pianist and arranger for Aime Barelli.
