    Flt Sim 2004

By Steve  Nov 13, 2003 | 25 out of 27 found this Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of Flight review helpful

    Pros: Real World Weather

    Cons: Resource-hungry program

First of all, I also have Flt Sim 2002 (and love it). My computer is currently running a Pentium 3 system at 1 gig. with 512 megs of RAM on a platform of Windows XP Pro. My 2002 Sim runs just great on it and since I didn't see any greater syste...m requirements indicated on the packaging or ads for the "2004", I expected similar performance to "2002". To make a long story short, I was in for a shock... jerky and somewhat unreliable performance at even the lowest graphics quality settings! The "real world" weather is a great experience, but I didn't particularly like how other flying aircraft were now nothing but some text floating around in the sky to define the aircraft.Tech support at Microsoft was very courteous and tried to be helpful, but after several written exchanges between them and myself, it was apparent that my current computer wasn't up to the task of running this program even half way right. For now, until I get my new super computer, I give up... I'll just stick with my Flt Sim 2002.It looks to me like if your hardware isn't the latest and the greatest, you might be in for a disappointment. Let's see what happens when I get my new hardware. Microsoft - Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of Flight review

Flight Simulator 2004 is more expensive than your average PC game, though of course it's not a game, or even a sim, but practically a new way of life as a pilot! You can learn a great deal about the real art of flying here within and it's jam-packed with an amazing level of detail in terms of the content, graphics and world locations. The visual enhancements, more detailed environments, extra sophistication with elements like the ""live"" weather and old classic planes to fly, make this a considerable advance on the last version. It's worth the asking price. Read more
