Square rekindles its relationship with Nintendo in this exclusive release of a Final Fantasy game, the first on a Nintendo platform since 1994's Final Fantasy III. Rather than follow the same format as previous titles in the best-selling role-playing game series, the developers have opted for a more action-oriented approach. Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles adopts a style similar to Nintendo's own Legend of Zelda series, with combat occurring in real time and players being able to roam the countryside from a third-person perspective behind their characters. Connectivity with the Game Boy Advance is also supported, as up to four players can cooperate in the adventure together using the handheld systems as controllers. When linked, each Game Boy Advance displays statistics such as health and experience points, freeing the main screen from clutter. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide

Pros: nothing good at all to say about this game

Cons: its not a real final fantasy game at all !

they had no right at all to call this a final fantasy game. this game has no features at all of the ff games we have come to know and love. first of all the story ,if u can call it a story , really stinks !. it doesnt have any of the depth and charec...tor develepment that u expect to get into with a real ff game. and the battle system is realy boring. its not turned based but in real time.you dont get to use all the wonderful weapons and magic like in all the other ff games. its really boring to play this game. please as a fellow gamer what ever you do rent it before you buy it !!!!!! or youll be sorry !!! Pros: Good graphics, good gameplay

Cons: repetitive levels, minimal relation to other ff games, no character development

The game isn't horrible, but neither is it the best game ever. It has good graphics, and most controls are pretty easy to get used to. The negatives consist of a constant loss of health whenever you step outside of your chalice safety zone (which... happens often since your moogle gets tired), getting cut off from the other locations on your map when you change the element of your chalice (until you unlock the unknown element), very little initial knowledge about the vulnerabilities of the enemies (unless you look it up online), the repetion of levels (though a positive is that new monsters appear when you return, and the old ones get tougher), and the gameboy advanced multi-player (for those who don't have gameboy advance, you'll probably never know what it was like, because i sure didn't). It's hard to level up or gain points when you don't actually know what you have to do to get points. I found it unfair that some of the levels actually take away points for doing things like picking objects or gil up. Having to trim Mog's hair was probably the most ANNOYING and time consuming thing you have to do in the game. I found myself having to drop important items during dungeons because i couldn't carry anymore objects (which bothers me because i'm the kind of person who likes to collect everything and sell what i can). You never know if you actually need a certain object or not until you get the blueprints and scrolls for the objects, and even then it's unknown if you can use the object or not because of your race. Also, there is an unnecessary playthrough when you go through a Miasma stream. For what reason do i have to basically walk SLOWLY in a straight line while i'm playing the game? It serves no purpose other than to get to the other side...slowly and tediously. Positives include good music, fair story line (though the only connection it has to the other FF games is a man named Cecil who lives in Marr's Pass), fair trading system (as long as you don't trade in Leuda as any race other than Selkie), and a fair combat system (until you get frozen, stuck, then beat upon and die instantly). Though the combat is VERY different from the other FF games, it's not too bad. I tend to lean towards the real time battle system anyway. i gave it a 3 out of 5 because, though it had some flaws, for me, the game wasn't too bad at all. It kept me occupied and i found myself trying to finish it, mostly so i could finally understand where the storyline was going (who was the black knight? What was he talking about when he said something stole his memories? Why do the Selkies steal your gil when you talk to them? What are the yellow squigly things on the map that look like people's names written in cursive? How come the miasma has elements, and why do you have to carry such an annoying chalice around?) The game leaves questions unanswered, and tends to have annoying attributes. In all, i'd say buy it, if it's on sale. Bought mine for $7 and i say it was a good investment, but i don't think i would have paid more. Read more Less
