Linda Thompson - Fashionably Late (CD)

Even for those who've never heard Linda Thompson sing the wonderful Dimming of the day, her new release Fashionably late is a must-have.It's great to have her back, as it wasn't very likely she would ever sing again, having retired from the music bus...iness in 1985.I've never heard anybody sing with so much passion and, at the same time, self control. Though her voice has, I think, slightly changed since the eighties, she's still as good as before, as far as emotions are concerned. I'm almost in tears when I listen to the outstanding ballad "Dear old man of mine".What's more, the songs (most of them cowritten by her and son Teddy) are very enjoyable. Sadly enough, she was never known for writing songs, even though she did various good collaborations in the mid-eighties. Well, now, we all know how good a writer she is. Her songs are both sad and powerful. No matter why or how she happened to write them .. I just hope she can do it again, some day.Unless you are a Britney Spears fan, you will enjoy this record, I bet you. It's really great music. And it's good to have Richard Thompson on the opening track "Dear Mary". He's such an amazing guitar player. Read more Less
