Cinematic Gold for the Coens

Along with "Lebowski", this is the film people think of when they hear "the Coen brothers". Fargo is a fantastic tale of a kidnapping gone wrong, and the sad, regular people involved. Everyone in this movie is great (Bill Macy is so good he will never be anyone but Jerry Lundegaard in my eyes) the story is fast-paced, complicated, and full of surprises. If you haven't seen this movie, you probably aren't into art films, but this is a fantastic introduction. "Fargo" was one of the pivotal movies that got me really into film. Fantastic must-see, an art film to should appeal to all.

One of my favorite movies if not my favorite movie! So witty, and still not weird. Makes you feel like you're watchings someones real life and not a movie. Regular folks portrayed in a great way!

I have to tell you, this movie was excellent. I loved it. I wish it won the 1996 best picture award. It was a very violent movie. Especially the near-end, but I don't want to spoil it for you. Just watch this movie. You won't regret it.

So what else is new from Hollywood?!? Overrated beyond description --- but, well cast. Idiot savant police chiefette is ludicrous --- other leads shine in a bloodbath of a ragged script from hell.

When car salesman Jerry Lundergard finds himself in financial trouble, due to illegal activities, the solution seems simple. Hire a couple of thugs to kidnap his wife, Jean, get her wealthy father to pay a hefty ransom, and keep half the money for himself. But a few dead bodies, one burnt umber Sierra, and $80,000 later, Jerry is begninning to see things differently. This cinematic masterpiece is the award-winning brainchild of brothers, Joel and Ethan Coen. Their script is unbelievably dark and witty. The filming techniques are brilliant, if not haunting, at times. And the music is powerful. But the best thing by far that this movie has to offer, Frances McDormand. She completely blows the rest of the cast (although terrific) out of the water. If you want to take a good look at the darker side of human nature (and laugh while you're doing it) than this is the movie for you!

This movie has it all, which makes it a MUST see. Good acting/directing/plot (fake)/flawless. The only thing that bugged me was the stupid accents. I'm from MN and no one talks like that. See it

The Coen brothers are gods of movie making. They make some of the few movies that will actualy improve each time that you see it. The first time its OK, by the third time, YOU WILL BELIEVE. This film is no exception, very funny, painful, absurd, violent, lots of snow, and in the end, the stupidity of violence and the hope in those you love. Buy it, buy all their films, go forth and thrash.

Good movie with a strong cast, but why does Jerry have such a small ice scraper when he lives in a place with such harsh winters? I live in Indiana, and I've got this diesel-powered monster scraper. I might have given this another star if not for the ice scraper.

I loved it on the big screen, I loved it on VHS but now on DVD and widescreen it's better than ever. A must have for anyone's collection.
