While the main purpose of the first homevideo by Jane's Addiction, 'Soul Kiss, ' was to include the uncensored version of their clip for "Mountain Song," it turned into an interesting (and nearly 30-minute long) snapshot of the band around the time of their major label debut's release, 1989's 'Nothing's Shocking.' While only 1 other full-length song is featured, a Farrell/Navarro acoustic performance of "City," the video is comprised of band interviews and scenes featuring Farrell and then-girlfriend Casey Niccoli (such as the singer shooting off a Roman candle in their bedroom, in the presence of their pet chicken). Several humorous scenes are included as well - guitarist Dave Navarro's pet eel, bassist Eric Avery's book report while 'sitting on the throne, ' drummer Stephen Perkins' distaste for a certain kind of fruit, and Perry's witty answer to an interviewer's question, 'Do you like selling records?' The clip for "Mountain Song" isn't as shocking as the ~MTV censors wanted you to believe - just a little bit of nudity is featured (when the clip was aired on ~MTV, the scenes were blocked out). The video's title refers to several scenes throughout the video in which the bandmembers kiss each other, which was a bold move at the time, since it went completely against the testosterone-heavy message of many hard rock/metal bands of the era.
