    This is an amazing album

This album is simply excellent. The sound is much like Nickelback, but in my mind, improved. The singers both sound much alike in their voice, almost exactly actually, but the on The Fallout, the actual style is a little different, and I prefer it ...over that of Silver Side Up. The songs that truly work on this album, there are many, begin with Sick and Tired, one of the harder songs on the album, Wasting My Time, which is getting a lot of airplay lately, then on to some acoustic songs which I believe are the best from any group since Days of the New. One Late Night is just simply excellent, Live a Lie, which is probably one of my favorite songs on the entire album, uplifting sound, then theres Faded, excellent riff, excellent vocals, then finally Let You Down, another song with a strong beat. Overall, the album is excellent and definetly worth buying. Read more Less

Pro Reviews: Fallout

  • All Music Guide

Default's debut album, The Fallout, sounds like a souvenir of the mid-'90s. Much like the second-generation grunge bands of that era -- Silverchair, Seven Mary Three, and Bush, to name a few -- this Canadian quartet sports a thick, buzzy guitar sound (courtesy of producer Rick Parasher of Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains fame) and a frontman whose mannered singing is equal parts Eddie Vedder, Maynard Keenan, and Layne Staley. With any lingering whiffs of danger or subversiveness that may be associated with those mentors airbrushed out of the picture, The Fallout provides a non-threatening option for those who seek the stylistic affectations of grunge rock, but wish to avoid all of the substance or excitement of its first generation. Default plays competently and the music sounds fine, but they simply have little to offer in the way of originality, which can also be said of a band like Creed, who nevertheless has millions of fans.

Biography

Default

Vancouver's Default fit the definition of straight-ahead hard rock in the early years of the 21st century: the guitar textures and melodic bent of grunge; the dark, brooding earnestness of post-grunge; and the deep, thick-sounding production (but not the rap influences) of new alternative metal. Default was formed as the Fallout in summer 1999 by guitarist Jeremy Hora a... Read more
