    Incredible!

Heres a rock band to listen to! Rather than the norm lately, which is to have a tough-looking guy who always ends up sounding like Lemmy from Mõtõrhead, we have here a pixie-ish girl singer who will blow your ears off with her powerful, but beaut...iful, voice. Her voice complements the epic arrangements of strings, piano, and heavy guitar beautifully. Also, pretty lyrically impressive for a young group. Read more Less

    Diamonds in The Rough

The debut from Little Rock, Arkansas hometown duo is a mixture of Goth, Alternative, Hard Rock, and a little Techno. Its an original sound like THIS Music Worshipper has never heard. Its completely original in a world of They sound like this and they... sound like that. The music is textured and luxuriant. The NATURAL talent of Amy Lee (Lead and Background Vocals), and Ben Moody (Lead and Rhythm Six-strings) shines through in the radio/soundtrack hit Bring Me To Life featuring Paul McCoy of 12 Stones. The song flat out JAMS! But its a different sound, somehow. Ethereal and almost epic. The CD has three slower tracks with Amy singing almost acapella, featuring her amazing voice and some very graceful piano work. They are beautiful, heartfelt songs which thoroughly capture you with the lyrics and release you with the music. The other remaining seven tracks are pretty much heavier and more aggressive. The guitar work of Moody is astounding and the riffs are definitely a showcase of talent. However, THIS Audiophiles favorite aspect of Fallen is most definitely Amy Lees choral arrangements. Obviously coming from experience in music somewhere down the line, the choral additions are breathtaking. Favorite Track? Whisper. Its the exclamation point at the end of a long-awaited and, dare I say, much needed musical statement. Read more Less

Fallen is the major-label debut of Evanescence, a Little Rock, AR-based quartet led by the soaring vocals of 20-year-old Amy Lee. Emboldened by the inclusion of its single "Bring Me to Life" on the soundtrack to the hit film Daredevil, Fallen debuted at an impressive number seven on ~Billboard's Top 40. But "Bring Me to Life" is a bit misleading. A flawless slice of Linkin Park-style anguish pop, it's actually a duet between Lee and 12 Stones' Paul McCoy. In fact, almost half of Fallen's 11 songs are piano-driven ballads that suggest Tori Amos if she wore too much mascara and recorded for the Projekt label. The other half of the album does include flashes of the single's PG-rated nu-metal ("Everybody's Fool," "Going Under"). But it's the symphonic goth rock of groups like Type O Negative that influences most of Fallen. Ethereal synths float above Brian Moody's crunching guitar in "Haunted," while "Whisper" even features apocalyptic strings and a scary chorus of Latin voices right out o...f Carmina Burana. "Tourniquet" is an anguished, urgent rocker driven by chugging guitars and spiraling synths, with brooding lyrics that reference Evanescence's Christian values: "Am I too lost to be saved?/Am I too lost?/My God My tourniquet/Return to me salvation." The song is Fallen's emotional center point and defines the band's sound. - Johnny Loftus, All Music Guide Read more Less

Biography

Evanescence

The goth-inspired Arkansas rock band Evanescence, with its Linkin Park-meets-Tori Amos sound backed by chugging guitars, easily made it to the top of the charts in 2003 with its Wind-Up Entertainment debut album, Fallen. Amy Lee and guitarist/songwriter Ben Moody formed the band at the end of the '90s after meeting in their early teens during a "youth camp," Moody said ... Read more
