faith- beauty
, May 29, 2001Reviewer: laynefry - See all laynefry's reviewsThe first time I heard this album I was overcome by the powerfull emotion of the poisonous beautifull synthesizers in "The Funeral Party".I will never forget it. I can even remember the exact date I first heard it. This album is by far the most cathartic emotional work the cure has ever done. It makes me see how beauty and darkness can compliment each other. Every time I go to a funeral or see a casket, "The Funeral Party" lingers in my head.
The song "Faith" reminds me of the actress Eliza Dushku (who plays Faith)from Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Eliza is beautifull and dark just as the album is. "Faith" (the album)is a dramatic classic. ...

Pro Reviews: Faith
| EXPERT RATING: From AMG Reviews Certainly not the "darkest" the Cure would eventually get, Faith is, as represented by the cover art, one of the most "gray" records out there. Melancholy and despondent (the feel of funerals and old churches just oozes from this record) without the anger that would over take Pornography, Faith comes off as not just a collection of songs, but as a full piece. "The Holy Hour," "All Cats Are Grey," and the spectacular "Faith" are slow atmospheric pieces that take the softer elements from Seventeen Seconds, and when sidled up next to faster tracks like the single "Primary" and "Doubt" paint an overall picture of the ups and downs contained within a greater depressive period. But it's not all gloomy keyboards and minimalist percussion, Faith is also a milestone for Robert Smith lyrically, branching out into questions of faith and spirituality he never quite touched on so well ever again. A depressing record, certainly, but also one of the most underrated and beautiful albums the Cure put together. They would not touch on this sort of lush sadness so well again until 1989's Disintegration. - Chris True, All Music Guide |

I personnally think the songs here are more inspired and brilliant that on either Seventeen seconds or Pornography. I think that lyrically and vocaly, Faith's the best Cure album of all time. The only thing is that, like
on Pornography, there is two crappy songs that comes and tear the album down. These songs are Doubt (a stupid copy of Primary), and the title
track, which is really boring. Now, replace the Faith song by Charlotte sometimes (Hit single of the same year of Faith), and give Doubt an identity, and you have the best Cure album they ever made...So close to 5 stars!!
But also, there's another sad point. Drowning
man is clearly the best song on it, really awesome song. The second best would be Primary,
which is, if you remember, the less good song on the Staring at the sea collection (With Other voices!!)Well, that's what I had to say abba that. ...
