Godsmack are back and even better

This has got to be Godsmack's best album so far, it really is amazing. It is unlike what they have done before, Sully's range of vocals are better than they've ever been, Shannon's drumming is so unique, Robbie's bass playing is as good as ever and T...ony's guitar riffs are just brilliant. Now I'm going to quickly review each track:1 - Straight Out Of Line. This is a decent track, if not slightly repetitive after a while. It's got a great chorus that you can shout your lungs out to and Shannon's drumming really is intense. I give it 8/102 - Faceless. A great self-titled track, I hope that this is the bands next single. Tony's guitar playing on this is really good and the chorus.. "Lie to me, you're faceless" is another great shout-along line :) 9/103 - Changes. Great hard-hitting track, mainly due to Shannon's brilliant drum playing once again. 9/104 - Make Me Believe. This is the first track on the album that really hit me, as Sully's range in vocals is really amazing. He's never sounded like it before and never sounded so good :) 9/105 - I Stand Alone. Well, we've all heard it before haven't we. Nuff' said. 7/106 - Re-Align. This is another really hard, stomping track - one to really turn up full blast. 9/1007 - I Fu**ing Hate You. A great track to release all that built up anger to, shout this out to all those people that really (beep) you off. 9/1008 - Releasing The Demons. One of my favourite tracks on the album. Starts off really slow and builds up even better. 10/1009 - Dead And Broken. This is an OK track, but does seem to get rather repetitive after a while. I still quite like it all the same. 8/1010 - I Am. This is another quite unique track. The drum beat intro really gets you moshing away to it and sounds like nothing else. 10/1011 - The Awakening. I nice little tribal interlude to Serenity. 8/1012 - Serenity. Wow. Think Voodoo but much better. Words cannot describe the brilliance of this song. So mellow it makes you want to cry, one to look out for. 10/10So all in all a really great album to get into, I can't stop listening to it. Some great tracks to blast out really loud and release some anger to and then one even better track to chill out to - which seems to sum up the whole album's feel. The only low point of this album I feel is "I Stand Alone" simply because it has been over-played so much.S Parkes. Read more Less

Godsmack's first, slow-burning success -- the self-titled debut from 1998 -- spent two years climbing charts and selling records as the witchy minstrels of alternative metal wound their way across the country on two consecutive ~Ozzfest tours. The sound was familiar enough, recalling Alice in Chains in both vocalist Sully Erna's tortured howls and their very name, taken from that band's excellent 1992 release, Dirt. And while it initially failed to impress critics, fans quickly picked up on the band's industrial touch to the post-grunge sound. Likewise, 2001's Awake was regarded by some as a sophomore slump, with only half of the sales of Godsmack's debut, but "slump" in this case equaled double-platinum. And though the sales did validate the band's effort to some extent, Awake was full of growing pains, as they tried in vain to shed their influences and ended up with a record that had successful moments, but its reliance on stop-start rhythms often left it sounding sorely underwritten.... Faceless, Godsmack's third full-length, grooves more fluidly than Awake, but the band still hasn't managed to locate the pop hooks that made their debut a success. And while concentrating on texture can be just as interesting as hooks, lyrics as misanthropic as Erna's only sink Faceless further into the mire. - Wade Kergan, All Music Guide Read more Less

Godsmack

The Boston-based alternative metal group Godsmack originally comprised vocalist Sully Erna (a devout Wiccan), guitarist Tony Rambola, bassist Robbie Merrill and drummer Tommy Stewart. After debuting in 1997 with All Wound Up, Godsmack signed with Universal, who in 1998 reissued the LP as a self-titled effort with a handful of new tracks; at that point Stewart -- who'd l... Read more
