Pros: Storyline, Physics, A.I. and Graphics
Cons: Needs some serious horsepower to run Full Tilt
Technically: This FPS uses the typical asdf keys for most movement commands, along with about 6 others, such as reload, flashlight, apply healthpack (first aid), use/operate/open, and grenade. The F (use) and G (grenade) keys you might want to remap from their closely located default positions - or you might toss a grenade into a door or lightswitch, heh... you also have constant wireless contact, and a unique slow-motion reflex mode, very helpful. The game is optimized for Nvidia and Creative, and certain resolutions, but the other options work fine - if you have the horsies in your box to back it up - this is definitely a maximum equipped gaming rig piece of software - it is one of the few supporting the Ageia PhyX card - Long story short, this is a very machine-demanding piece of gameage.
The Game: The opening sequence tells the background - the First Encounter Assault Recon (F.E.A.R.) was created in 2002 to deal with, well, freaky stuff of a paranormal nature.
It opens with a cut sceen videos between a little girl walking through some sort of hospital research center, and a military commander on his knees in a room. The little girl is whispering - some of which can be understood, some can't... as she approaches the room, the commander starts to twitch, the girl opens the door whispering "kill them all" and the commander screams. Suddenly, a whole battalion of heavily armed soldiers "awakens" and begins to take over the institution, as the commander and the soldiers shoot and slash - quite graphically, everyone in sight.
Following an phone call between a woman and an anonymous senator about the situation - it cuts to the mission: F.E.A.R. is going to take out the commander, Paxton Fettel, a telepathic experiment gone astray, now commanding a battalion of soldiers wreaking havoc... Fortunately, the commander has a radio chip implanted in his head - so the FEAR team can track him via satellite. Take him down, and his soldiers shut down... that's the plan.
The graphics are stunning, as you ride shotgun aboard a blackhawk with SFOD-D detachments to the first attempt at capturing Fettel - resulting in the annhiliation of the SFOD-D teams by "liquification" by the little girl. You also lose your F.E.A.R.squad mate - at least from this plane of existence.
The rest of the game is a mix of battling the clone soldiers, and slipping into what seems to be hell, battling demons (nightmares - bad dream stuff), and other... scenes. Along the way, you get to encounter body after body, empty offices and lots of phones with voice mail on them - which slowly reveal the unfolding story.
The girl appears in two incarnations, as the 8-year old, playful and full of mischief, and also as a teen.
Her name is Alma. And she is hell-bent on revenge, for a lot of reasons. In short, she was used as a baby machine, then put in near-death cryogenic suspension, then awakend to give birth, then put back in cryo - she has been locked in nowhereland (the Vault) for 20 years. Obviously, she has somehow escaped - at least as an apparition. She is telepathic, telekinetic, and pissed. Everything you'd want in a teen about the house, eh?
There are a few twists and surprises (expected in a ghost/military FPS) - but it adds to the storyline. It is also a very long game, spooky - never knowing where the enemy is, or what will appear - above, behind, below... The A.I. is awesome - enemy soldiers will traverse long roundabouts to come at you from behind, and use real world cover-and-assault/retreat tactics. The demon nightmares - they don't care - it's full on, in swarms. But hey, they're already dead, right?
Anyhow, the objective is achieved, Fettel is dead, clone army shut down - and you blow the reactor and escape, barely - seems like mission's over... but... due to a certain revelation about two prototypes in the game (Fettel was the 2nd)... maybe appearances can be deceiving. Extraction Point answers those issues
Pros: FPS
Cons: Monolith
This game is pure genious. It combines a dark scary atmosphere with fast paced action. The graphics and special effects are truly godsent. Exploding barrels provide shock-waves and fiery debris. At times it is necessary to wait for the smoke to clear out of the room in order to make sure everything is "clear". And unlike some games, the pistol is actually a GOOD weapon. I prefer using the pistol over any of the assault rifles and smg's. The shotgun however is my all time favorite... you can shoot off limbs and heads, or just explode them in a red cloud of blood. Another favorite is the nailgun-like "penetrator". Grenades are a little underpowered though, causing minimal damage unless it's right on top of them. All around Great game though. ...
Pros: Nice game feature with intense suspense
Cons: low volume on character speech
You are F.E.A.R., First Encounter Assault Recon operative belong to a special task force setup by the government to assess and defend against paranormal adversary thats beyond the capability of normal SWAT.
The story starts out with an army, a battalion to be more exact, of clone soldiers lead by a psychic commander that has took over a research facility and killed everyone inside. The research facility has been marked as the ground zero for tapping into a new type of warfare; a clone army capable of going into battle with a psychic-in-tune commander for superior fighting capability. And now thats what you have to fight and neutralize
Sucks huh?
You dont have much information upfront, more and more on the storyline is given to you as you tackle each stage and unfold the mystery of what has took place
Game Feature Ghost Hunter + Rambo = Yeah baby!!!
F.E.A.R. is a First Person Shooter game, which means gamer that clock hours in Doom, Counter Strike, Half-life, etc. will find this game familiar. However, the one thing that brings F.E.A.R. standout from the rest of them in the genre is its smooth mixture of creepy, horror ploy that will boost the suspense in the game to an uncomfortable level; you know the kind of feeling you get in a haunted place or in theater watch horror movies? Well, its here too.
But what exactly does F.E.A.R. do that make it so different and so eerie? Lets step back and talk about what really scares us off when we watch those horror films.
In horror films, the mostly commonly used technique that would throw audience into disarray is the sense of paradox; when things that arent suppose to be there suddenly appears.
For example, a person walking passed the door in a place thats suppose to be empty, a split second of flash-vision of distorted image of a person being tortured, or bloods drip from all the walls surrounds you, someone ran through the hallway and disappear into thin air when you chase him down through the corner.
All these are techniques that give you the creepy feeling and generate that discontent in your mind, because these events keep telling you one thing; something is seriously wrong here, and you dont know what it is
When you are playing any First Person Shooter and running around with your big guns, most of the time youre searching for things to shoot. Sure you run into a tight spot where enemies just keep coming at you, but thats where it gets fun because you are in control. However, that sense of confidence get challenge so much in F.E.A.R. that would make even the most confidence man question himself.
Image you are alone with support, and as you work your way inside the structure you would constantly see people walking past half-open door on the side of your screen, small girl running past you and disappear when you turn to look, creepy transmission and voice appear out of nowhere. By integrate the horror techniques throughout the game, F.E.A.R. keep robbing that sense of control that you would normally have with regular FPS; and they do it so smoothly and often that you would think twice before walking through any empty corridor again. (Or standing up from your chair and head to the bathroom for that matter)
Pros: Innovotive FPS
Cons: Same old thing
Claims to be technologically innovotive yet seemingly another yawn inducing fps.
Pros: graphics, story, gameplay
Cons: length
this is a wonderful game and i love it! I just wish it wasn't so short. Hopefully the expansion pack finishes the story off nicely. I'd recoomend this for anyone looking for an awesome shooter.
Pros: everything... storyline, graphics, intensity... everything!
Cons: nada
this is an absolutely amazing game!! the battle scenes are awesome. there are some realistic things in it that are cool and sometimes harmful... for example if you are hiding from or sneeking up on somebody you might want to steer clear of dead bodies. your character will kick the body and it will make a noise that the enemy can hear. and they will come looking for a fight... another thing i liked is that you can hear what they are saying and if you are in a hallway and they don't have enough men to win, they will surpress you as long as possibe and call for backup. you can hear them calling for backup... absolutely an amazing and ingenious game with out of this world graphics.
Pros: Killer graphics, Realistic advanced AI, Totally insane sound, Immersive plot/storyline
Cons: None
I was hooked within the first 5 minutes of playing the game. The way the game was assembled using eerie scenes and intense fast action gameplay is bar none the best I've ever experienced. It's more like being in a big screen Sci-fi/Horror movie than playing a game. If you don't like blood, guts, gore, swearing or being afraid then don't buy this game. However if that's the kind of stuff you crave then this game is for you!
Pros: Graphics; Sound; Storyline; Atmosphere; Action
Cons: Hogs too much memory; requires a top notch PC
I loved every minute of it. The story is pure genius, and downright creepy. The graphics and special effects are out of this world gorgeous. The action is pulse-pounding and a glorious sight to behold. I especially liked the SlowMo.
I played it on a P4 3.0GHz, 2 GB of RAM and a highly overclocked and tweaked GeForce 6800 video card, and the game was set to 1024x768, 2XAA, 4XAF, SoftShadows OFF. Half the time it stayed at ~70FPS, and the other half it was 30FPS. Can't debate! It would also reboot my system at times out of nowhere, something that happens only with this game.
While it does have its flaws, it's hardly enough to bring the visceral experience down a notch. I highly recommend this game.
Pros: excelent gameplay
Cons: none
you dont need to play this game at night or while alone!!! the little girl alma is very creepy and comes out of nowhere at times when you are not expecting anything. definately not for the faint of heart perfect for haloween
Pros: Better graphics than Half-Life 2 and DOOM 3
Cons: Nothing.... absolutely nothing
Pros: Intense brutal close quaters combat.
Cons: Need a hefty rig to run at high resolution.
The first thing you notice is the detail. The lighting is excellent, the sounds are superb, and the textures are clear and crisp.
Combat is what this game is about, and what combat it is. Close in, up front and personal, brutal. Shoot a man with the shotgun, watch him dissolve into a red spray. Use the pistol for a head shot, watch the offending part roll down the corridor as sprays of blood throw themselves up into the air! and all in slow motion ala bullet time! O yes people, you ever wanted to slo mo your way through a fire fight, here is your chance! watch a slow streams of bullets tear the air around you, and smile smugly as you dance unhindered around killing all in your way. This game is sublime, well crafted and well thought out. I have saved the best till last though. Its scary, pant wettingly scary in points, and you will want to have those lights on a while after playing.Awesome game, just make sure you have a good pc to play at high resolution.
