The alternative rock band Eva Trout's roots start with ex-Catherine Wheel bass player Grant Shanahan. Putting together a new project, he placed an advertisement for a guitarist, which Bek-Jean Stewart answered. She convinced Shanahan to listen to her perform on a live radio broadcast and he was sufficiently impressed, scrapping the vocalist with whom he had been working to add Stewart.
