| EXPERT RATING: From AMG Reviews Sony's Essential Judas Priest collection is the perfect middle ground for those who found 2004' s fourdisc Metalogy box a bit too daunting. Each and every one of the 34 tracks is indispensable, chronicling the group's rise from Queenworshipping debutantes to revolutionary metal gods. It's often the case that when career retrospectives take a nonlinear approach to their sequencing, the resulting play list becomes a mess of clashing recording techniques and jarring style changes, but Priest has always held true to its vision, experimenting early on with the New Wave of British Heavy Metal in ways that seamlessly bridged the gap between their Gull and Columbia years. From the opening avatar scream of 2005's comeback single "Judas Rising" to the introductory guitar swells of Screaming for Vengeance's "The Hellion/Electric Eye" no live cuts or Tim "Ripper" Owensera tracks were included this is one compilation that's worthy of its moniker. - James Christopher Monger, All Music Guide |

This 2 disc set is only the 4th greatest hits package from JUDAS PRIEST, a band that has been around for 30 years.
This disc covers hits from almost all of the albums recorded with ROB HALFORD, their original and returned lead singer.
The only album omitted was Rocka Rolla (1974).
From Sad Wings Of Destiny (1976) to Angel Of Retribution (2005).
Unlike it's predecessor, the 2 CD Metal Works 1973-1993, this album contains only studio versions; no live versions.
Unlike Metalogy, the 4 CD box, this album contains no songs from "The Ripper" years.
Honestly, the ROB HALFORD years are THE essential JUDAS PRIEST years.
