    time3 is more "essential"

    love journey, love the new albums, but in reference to this album, time3 is more essential than this 2-disc set. someone else wrote that this album is missing the Rolie and Augeri years, and that's what I like about time3 is the early stuff. i ...think the third disc of the boxed set is the best--it has so many songs that are essential to journey ("happy to give," "once you love somebody," and "the eyes of a woman" come to mind). i also disagree with a previous reviewer...trial by fire was an excellent album, probably steve perry's most dominant and versatile vocal performance. still, the "escape" album is the greatest of all time.     Always loved the Journey w/ Steve Perry. I never collected all their albums because I was a young teen at the time, sometimes I didn't have the money. Essential Journey was an answer to my yearning for Journey's hits on one CD/set without hav...ing to buy every album I missed during the 'magical years' with Steve Perry....what a voice! what a gift!!     I love Journey. They are one of my favorite bands of all time. I never got to see them live with Steve Perry but I have seen them twice with Steve Augeri and they were great! Arrival was a good album. Not as good as the 80's Steve Perry stuff but sti...ll better than a lot of the other dreck out there. And it was certainly better than Trial By Fire. My complaint is this: Why this 2-cd greatest hits compilation? What is the purpose, besides the obvious one of making some extra cash? Let's see...Journey compilations: Captured, Greatest Hits, Time 3, Greatest Hits: Live...and now this. Why? Most die-hard Journey fasn already have all of these songs anyway. If they were going to go ahead with this the least they could have done was put some new or un-released tracks on it. I'm sure there is some stuff lying around that they have not put out. Look at Time 3, new stuff. I hate to say it about a great band, but this album is a rip-off. Read more Less

    From what I see on the song list this is going to be a great album. This would be a better purchase for someone wanting to check out Journey than the greatest hits, since this one goes farther than featuring the hits it contains some of their best al...bum tracks as well. Read more Less
