Synopsis: Escape From the Planet of the Apes (1971)

This third installment in the PLANET OF THE APES series finds Cornelius and Zira in modern-day Los Angeles. They have traveled back in time, but soon find that they have enemies in the past as well as the present. This is thought by many to be the best of the sequels. Followed by CONQUEST OF THE PLANET OF THE APES.

    I liked this movie because it was so different than past science fiction movies because of them were corny. Especially the ones of the fifties to were they would have the big scary monsters. I happen to just like this because it tells a story of the...se people and its almost like as if you were reading a book. Read more Less

    The Best Of The Rest

    Without either the gorillas on the prowl for humans that run wild through forests or orangutangs that comprise the aristocracy "Escape From The Planet Of The Apes" would elicit little excitement from those familiar with this series. Yet Paul Dehn pu...t forth his best contribution to act as the blue print for this project and it shows. Unlike its predecessor "Beneath The Planet Of The Apes" this installment refuses to employ the ridiculous (such as the subterranean movement of mutants who possess the prowess of psychological control yet fail to repel its aggressors) since its environment is by comparison contemporary as Kim Hunter Roddy McDowall and the late Sal Mineo travel from the fictional future to the then present. Members of the presidential commision associate guilt to Hunter as Zira and McDowall as Cornelius for the terror that the simian rule of the future inflicts on man. Much like Heston would as Taylor in the first chapter Hunter and McDowall succeed as heroic even if fate appears without favor for the respective role either occupy. Read more Less
