This movie is absolutely wonderful. It has everything you could want in a movie -action/adventure, drama, beautiful artwork, extraordenary music, character development, an intriging plot, and so much more!
I have to say, my favorite part is the opening scene with Van (who is delishously voiced by Kirby Morrow) fighting on the enemy ship. I'm not really a person for action, but the music combined with the excellently choreographed swordfighting and Van(did I mention he's really hot too?)makes an outstanding introductory scene.
I would recommend buying the limited edition version of the movie, because of the soundtrack (you gotta love Yoko Kanno) and the extras disc is cool too.
Even if you don't buy this movie, at least rent it or find some other way to view it. It's an experiance you won't forget.
The movie was incredible. Though it did stray much from the plot of the anime series, the movie was still nothing short of spectacular. Even the soundtrack was great. If you've never seen a japanese animation movie before, this is the perfect way to start.
I've been watching anime for a while now, and I have to say that Escaflowne is the greatest series I've ever seen - and this movie is amazing. (The Escaflowne series, "The Vision of Escaflowne", has already been released in America on VHS and DVD - if you haven't seen it, I strongly recommend it to you as well.)
I was fortunate enough to see "A Girl In Gaea" before it was released here, and I'm so excited that it is finally here for everyone. "Escaflowne" combines a powerful message and a twisting plotline with beautiful animation and intriging characters. (The show was beautiful, but this movie is an incredible feat of animation!) I don't want to give too much of this show or movie away, but the Escaflowne atmosphere combines the high-tech world of mecha with a fantasy world of royalty, chivalry, and good vs. evil. Everyone, both fans of anime or not, can enjoy Escaflowne. It is so hard to descibe just how good Escaflowne really is, so I hope you will purchase it and see for yourself. Although the movie follows a slightly modified and obviously condensed version of the show's intriging plot, I'm sure you will be as stunned by its beautiful and sometimes haunting and chilling messages as I was. Happy viewing!
