Two German brothers, one a kitchen counter-top salesman and the= other a Feng Shui consultant, want to get their screwed-up lives togethe= r by going to Japan for a retreat in a Zen monastery. Enroute, their mid-= life crisis turns into a midnight crisis when they get lost in Tokyo's ne= on jungle and can't find their way back to their hotel. It's down and out= in Asia's brave new world. Having lost their passports, credit cards, di= rections, and with no Yen in their pocket, they wander through a kaleidos= copic alien environment where the most routine tasks become major, often = comical, challenges. They have to survive by their wits and certainly nev= er expected the Zen concept of "leaving everything behind" to be like thi= s. Life in the monastery is an immersion of a more subtle kind. The munda= ne and the sublime - where does the one stop and the other start? What do= es cleaning the floor have to do with cleansing your heart? Still, the en= igma of enlightenment keeps them going. Although it often seems just with= in their grasp, it continues to elude them.
