Eragon A Rare Enjoyable Fantasy Movie

    By Maestro  Jul 22, 2007

Pros: The run time is bearable, as well as the overall feel of the film. It is nowhere near as pretentious as Potter or Lord of The Rings.

Cons: The single-disc version offers only commentary as extra features.

The fantasy genre of movies has been among the most successful in recent years, thanks to the likes of the 'Harry Potter' and 'Lord of The Rings' franchises. 'Eragon', though did not fare quite as well as it's fantasy bret...hren when it hit theaters. Perhaps being overshadowed by the hugely popular 'Potter' movement was the biggest problem for this actually fun fantasy movie. Eragon has a lot going for it, in that it does not follow the formulas used to make the 'Potter' and 'Lord of The Rings' franchises so successful. Given, it has wizards, and swordsfights, and even dragons, but there is something that sets this movie apart from the other current fantasy films. It is not the first of its kind (it is actually very similar to the Sean Connery movie, 'Dragonheart.' And much like 'Eragon', 'Dragonheart' did not turn out to be the hoped for blockbuster. That aside, there is something (other than the fully bearable 103 minute run time) that makes this movie worth at least watching. Whether it is the special effects, or the checmistry between the cast, there is something that will make even the casual viewer of fantasy movies enjoy this work. Read more Less
