Pros: "Looks nice"
Cons: Everything else
This printer never worked from day I bought it brand new from Office Depot. Strait out of the box, it was programmed to read in a different language (as if it had been used) and the print cartridges would never line up properly. Months later, I have a "brand new" printer that has never printed a single thing, I keep getting a run around from Epson and have received no assistance from Office Depot whatsoever - do yourself a favor and NEVER buy their extended warranty. I have tried to resolve other issues with Office Depot warranties in the past, and they always find a reason not to refund or fix the product. You will find yourself spending money for nothing in the end.
Pros: Price not quality
Cons: The thing eats ink
This machine was a disappointment to me. I have always been more than satisfied with my previous Epson devises. First of all was the ink use. Next was the noise. Then the printhead malfunctioned. Fortunately I could use the scanner function to send Epson Technical Support examples of the failure. After about 6 months, the machine could only scan and send faxes. I hoped for more.
Pros: multifunctional, easy to use, Epson brand
Cons: Printhead malfunctions, colors are not as bright as they should be.
I purchased a brand new Model CX940F, and after a few months, the printhead malfunctioned, then I was given a refurbished one (same model) as a replacement, and after a couple months, that printhead malfunctioned. Then instead of being given another refurbished CX9400F, I requestedd either a new one or a similar one of similar value, but got another refurbished one. Needless to say, this last one malfunctioned (printhead). How many times are they going to continue sending a refurbished CX9400F, if they fail to function properly? It has gotten to the point where I expect another model that does not have the same kind of printhead. Workforce 600 or 800 Artisan. Anything but the CX9400F. We'll see what happens with this latest episode of refurbished replacements for a Brand new Printer purchased.
Pros: none
Cons: ink is a joke
I MAKE SURE I TELL EVERYONE NOT TO BUY THIS PRINTER HAVING TO REPLACE ALL CARTRIGES OR YOU CANT PRINT I MEAN MY BLACK IS FULL BUT I CANT PRINT SOMETHING BLACK ILL NEVER BUY EPSON AGAIN
Pros: Great scanner
Cons: none
I have three Epson CX9400's and never use their printer functions. I use the Epson to scan documents into Acrobat and save them on my network (four computers). I also have three laser printers including a super-fast one I call "Sir Speedy." Once the documents are in the network I can print them any time I want using the laser printers.
I usually scan in black and white, but sometimes I use the color scan, which is terrific.
Use the copier for what it does well and ignore the weak features.
Pros: prints in black really well; great scanning options
Cons: creates 'printing' hostage situation when color inks run out
In general this is a very good printer and scanner. It would be great except for its failings tied to the color inks. You pay a price (quite literally) for the color option with this printer and possibly most other Epson's too - read on.
1)To start, once the color ink cartridges run dry the printer won't print anything else until they've been replaced. Doesn't matter if the black ink is recent/full and you have your print settings set to print text only and/or black only, you are stuck until new color ink cartridges are installed - all three of them. So there goes roughly $35+/- each go-round of forced consumerism.
2)Then, even if you are 'stingy' with using color printing the printer will eventually flag the color ink cartridges as "too old" (at about 6-month-ish) and force you to replace them. This is actually listed in the user's manual, and I experienced it first-hand!
3) A good thing is that the black ink cartridges have a relatively high-capacity version available (68's) so you're not swapping out black cartridges too often. But now here's the big HOWEVER; amazingly enough there is no comparable high-capacity version for the three color inks, so gee whiz they need changing often. Kind of like selling you a car with great gas mileage, except that the oil has to be changed every 200 miles or the car will shut down.
I'll hang on to this printer for a while, but this color ink piracy will have me seriously considering switching to HP next time - unless Epson changes their evil-ways on this issue. You can be sure that my next purchase will not include a color printer that sets up a 'replacement' hostage situation between the color and black ink cartridges.
Pros: great machine, great work
Cons: ink drinker, ink drinker, ink drinker!!!
I'm just sick over the amount of ink this printer uses and how it makes sure you cannot use any black without purchasing the color (any color). Such a shame to have this nice machine and yet cannot print without guzzling the ink.
I will never buy a Epson product again due to the ink issues with this one. Cannot use black when one of the other colors is out and believe me they go out fast! Epson must really be hurting to pull such a trick with this printer which tells me they do not care about the customer but only about the money. If the ink situation could be corrected then this would be an absolutely awesome printer but I print too much too often to own it. In the trash it goes...not gonna give someone else the headache of owning this sad machine.
Pros: Still looking for some
Cons: Ink drinker; takes advantage of me time and money
Cannot understand how they can get away with it!! Forces you to buy ink; so many paper jams. Fax will not fax more than one page at a time. Picture quality is awful. And on top of all of that, I have returned three different machines, thre different times.Fedex fees cost more than new machine. Do you think they can figure that out!!! NO, NO, NO. Will never buy Epson again
Pros: Performs as advertised
Cons: Uses cartridges quickly; can't print black if cyan runs out
Epson Stylus CX9400Fax Color All-in-One Printer]]
This do-it-all machine performs as advertised. However, to my mind, it has one great major flaw. After you've used the thing a few times you learn that the cartridges need fairly frequent replacement. First of all, EPSON has made absolutely certain that generic cartridges cannot be used in this machine. (They've already sued one Generic manufacturer) Secondly, when any one of the cartridges runs out of ink, the machine will not operate. If you only want to print in black, when cyan runs out, the machine stops. It's fairly obvious that EPSON got pretty greedy with this one and makes all of its money from cartridge sales. I'll never buy another EPSON product tyhat uses cartridges! As I said before, it functions pretty well
