The thing that really stinks about this

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 19, 2002

is that the 1981 version of "Radio Free Europe" is included instead of the superior and very different MURMUR remake we're all familiar with! And where's SUPERMAN? Grrr...

    Quality music

This is a really good compilation of mostly singles taken from the IRS era of R.E.M. The hib tone version of Radio Free Europe and the different vocal mix (read 'intelligible') of Gardening At Night are beautiful. What I don't understand is why there... isn't a single song off Dead Letter Office when the album cover has been shown in the liner notes. Of course DLO was a B-sides album but it had some good stuff. Anyway, as a whole, Eponymous is a great introduction CD for a new R.E.M. fan. Read more Less

    The name gives it away.

This was my first R.E.M. album. I bought it after I'd downlaoded The End of the World as We Know It from Napster. I had to choose out of this one or Document because I didn't have the money for both at the time. Eponymous won the coin toss. Turned ou...t that R.E.M. was an awesome band! Now I'm a major R.E.M. fan. Darn Eponymous! Now I have an obsession! AAAARRRRGH! Read more Less

    '82-'87: The IRS Years

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 25, 2001

This was the first R.E.M. cd I bought about, hmmm... six or seven years ago when I first got interested in the band. I thought it was an "official album" until I read the back and saw it was a greatest hits. But I fell in love anyway, the first time ...I listened to "So. Central Rain," and "Fall On Me," I was hooked. I went right out and started buying all their older cassettes and cds as at that time they were beginning to become hard to find, but luckily I was able to get them all. Whew! RECKONING was one I thought I'd never get, had to end up special ordering it.But anyway, this is another must for every R.E.M. fan, and one I'd recommend to new R.E.M. fans who want to sample some of the bands material. Every track captures their development from the IRS years. Especially love the original Hid-Tone version of "Radio Free Europe,"and the different vocal for "Gardening At Night." Read more Less
