In the '70s, Epic Soundtracks formed Swell Maps, with his brother, Nikki Sudden; the band influenced many groups, from Sonic Youth to the Lemonheads. Considering his past, it may seem strange that Epic returned in the early '90s after a long hiatus to write moving piano ballads. His first solo LP, Rise Above, featured J.
