  • All Music Guide

On tour with the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Orchestra in England, baritonist Pepper Adams took time off to record a fine straightahead quartet session with the big band's rhythm section: pianist Roland Hanna, bassist George Mraz and drummer Mel Lewis. Adams performs four of his obscure originals (most memorable is the melodic title cut), Thad Jones' "Quiet Lady," "Jitterbug Waltz" and a romping version of Bud Powell's classic "Bouncing With Bud." A fine example of the deep-toned baritonist at his best.
