    RIVETING and REALISTIC !!!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 21, 2001 | 1 out of 1 found this Enemy At the Gates (2001) review helpful

The movie allowed its audience to clarify what combat was like in WWII. Rachel Weisz was breathtaking and sexy. Great use of camera angles and camera work. Two thumbs up, war buffs alike will love this film.

    Pros: Accuracy; attention to detail

Cons: Casting of Bob Hoskins and Rachel Weisz

A graffic, thorough and somber retelling of the siege of Stalingrad, via a footnote incident surrounding that siege.
Not the kind of film that will get multiple viewings, but
an important addition to the cinematization of World War II.

I was riveted by the action & romance of this movie. It's a top-rate production that makes you feel as if you are actually there.

    Sniper dual

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 11, 2003

A love story in the mist of a the great sniper's dual in Stalingrad during WWII. Great music score, well developed characters, and a shocking look at brutality of war.

The character of Vasiliy Zaytsev is not fictional; there indeed was such a person. The movie is really about the situation and the INNER WORKINGS of the Soviet Army in 1942-43, and the goal is well achieved. The central "driving force" is... Danilov, a political officer, who hardly knows how to hold a gun. A historical remark: the battle of Stalingrad was to keep Germany from the oil resources on the Ural river, so the significance of the battle is hard to overestimate. It looks like the directors consulted with those who saw the events themselves.(I am appaled by the confidence with which some reviewers assert that Zaytsev is fiction; check the statements you make, take some responsibility!) After watching this movie, I realized that not all war movies are terrible. I dislike nearly every movie centered on war and the effects it has on society. This is one of the two Ive viewed that doesnt follow that pattern. The acting was phenomenal a...nd the portrayal of each character was entirely believable. I would recommend this movie to anyone wanting to watch a movie with high-quality acting, yet a plot that moves faster than mud. Read more Less

    Great flic.

No wonder the Jew's approval dependent weaklings "critics" panned it.

Ed Harris was great. Somehow this guy portrays the tragedy and ethos of the National Socialists so well.

    Not So Good....

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 16, 2002

Lets see. A movie based on two fictional characters... they never existed and were created for propaganda purposes during the war. Oh. And stalingrad (in the movie) is well intact for being bombed/shelled constantly. And it was bitter cold... somet...hing not depicted well in movie. And every shot took was a headshot... which a sniper only takes if hes been sitting on a target for a very long time... i could go on. Read more Less
