  • Overall:

    a splendid array of amorousness

this album is touching from begining to end. it is almost as if the whole album is one heavenly song. if one is not in some way moved by this great work of art, one is not able to be moved at all..

The posthumous release of this legendary emo-rock recording finds the band with exactly the same style and demeanor of their amazing The Power of Failing. Although the music and feeling are nearly identical, the sharper production gives the record an almost glassy or plastic feel, placing far below the raw beauty of their earlier work. It gives the band's rather large fan following something to them remember by -- although it somehow seems that the memory would have been more precious without this release. This is easily a disappointment; nevertheless, many who loved Mineral will not be able to help themselves from falling for this last release, and it will probably bring them quite a few more admirers who never paid attention before.

When Mineral broke up in 1998, they had been together for only four years and released only two full-lengths, yet their shaping of the indie rock landscape cannot be overstated. The Austin four got together in 1994 and wasted no time in blanketing the country and cranking out 7"s, initially hooking with the label of tourmates Christy Front Drive, The Audio Concept, and ... Read more
