    This is one of teena marie's not so great commercial appeal... however... that does not mean this album is not worth a listen."summer skies" is a smooth jazz/soul piece that is so wonderfully done, one wishes she would pursue it a bit more to really ...see this flower shine. another is "bactucada suite", a carribean flow all over it that makes one get up and dance..altho it's not the best in her catelog, it's certainly not the worst either... worth a listen.     "Emerald City" was by far Teena Marie's most adventurous album: it combined elements of her musical influences and styles into one package. From the dance/pop of "Once Is Not Enough" to the chilling, hard-rock track "You So Heavy" to the beautiful j...azz ballad "Sunny Skies," Teena Marie does it all on this album. Fans balked, however, and it ended up being her poorest seller. It is only upon reflection that one realizes how far ahead of her time Marie was: with carbon-copy dance albums in abundance, "Emerald City" stood out (and continues to stand out) as an innovative, lyrical and suprising work of a singer who dares to be different. As usual, Teena Marie handled all of the writing/
    producing/
    arranging on this album. She stands out as a brilliant interpreter who is willing to take any type of music and make it her own.     Read more Less
