Pro Reviews: Elmore James, John Brim, Floyd Jones

  • All Music Guide

Both the artwork and the first two-thirds of this 20-track CD partially overlap the Chess Records release on Elmore James and John Brim. The last six songs are by Floyd Jones and include his classic "Dark Road" and "You Can't Live Long," cut on December 29, 1951 and September 17, 1952. All of the tracks feature Little Walter on harmonica, and the four 1951 songs also feature Jimmy Rogers. The sound is okay, and in the absence of any official Floyd Jones release from Chess, this is worth tracking down.
