A career big band player, Williams played with some of the best, including Chick Webb and Fletcher Henderson, among others. Williams worked with Claude Hopkins in 1926-7 before joining Webb. He worked with Webbon and off through 1934, also playing for a time with McKinney's Cotton Pickers in 1931 and with one of Louis Armstrong's early big bands in 1932-3.
