GREAT movie on Elizabeth's early reign
Pros: Great costuming, great acting, great script
Cons: not completely accurate
This movie is based on Queen Elizabeth I's early life included prior to when she was queen and when she became queen. She was not always the "virgin queen" as we have come to know her with her white painted face and red wigs. She was a young girl when she became Queen and had to find her way. Of course it is not historically accurate, but they did try and the costuming is close to what it would have been during the Elizabethean age.
This movie shows the ups and downs of Elizabeth's early reign and how uncertain her throne was. There is superb acting and script writing. I highly recommend this to anyone who like this genre. Pros: Casting, costumes, & Directing
Cons: not much just the length of time.
This film is a great British entry of its own leadership. A great film with maybe one flaw, its running time. A tad short, but above a great fillm. Blanchet shines in the title role. Rush and company is superb as the supporting cast! Attenborough stands out as the great role he has here. Dont miss this. A great film witha first rate cast! I am planning on taping it soon. It comes on TV Tuesday.

I personally tire of people complaining that movies are inaccurate or non factual. It's a movie. It entertained many, so mission accomplished. If I want the truth, I'll read several history books and come up with my own opinion anyway. Unfortunately common historical facts are not always factual and just some well educated person's well calculated opinion.
'Elizabeth' was a wonderful movie. It had a wonderful story line, amazing acting, musical score and beautiful scenes. The movie inspired me to actually pick up a book or two and learn what historians have to say about The Virgin Queen. And I have read two that differ in opinion on some details. Yet, they have the same basic story as the movie. So her cousin was beheaded for treason instead of slaughtered in her bed chamber. She is dead none the less.Was this review helpful? OUTSTANDING!!!! I saw it once and bought it the next morning. Kate Blanchette gives a command performance along with the rest of the cast.

I brought two DVDs at the same time - 'Elizabeth' and 'Sense & Sensibility'. I thought the later one would be quite boring. But to my super surprise, 'Sense & Sensibility' is a superb one whereas, I'm sorry, 'Elizabeth' is a total disappointment! Does anyone notice the very noticeable microphone dropped into almost every scene? How can this happen? Amazing! Or something wrong with my DVD?

Out of the thousands of movies I have seen, Elizabeth captures my attention and imagination. This movie is well written with accurate depictions. The music was wonderfully scored for this movie. I have the VHS and DVD version and recommend it to anyone. Cate does a remarkable performance. I watch it several times a month.

I am the first to say that Cate Blanchett gave a wonderful portrayal of Elizabeth I. What disappointed me the most about the movie was its complete departure from historic fact and chronology of events. Given the lavishness of the production, I should have thought the writers would have paid a bit closer attention to factual detail than they did. The movie was quite misleading in that regard, taking events our of order and our of context.

This is a wonderful piece set in England during a time of instability. The acting is incredible, and the plot entertains. At times, a viewer may become confused because of the language and changing motives of the characters, but the mystery adds to the suspense. In the end, a moving and engaging film.

This is one great movie!!! The actors were selected very well for the characters that were being portrayed, and the storyline was fantastic. I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone!
