A little bit Country and A little bit Rock & Roll

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jun 14, 2006

Pros: Not the same old cookie cutter music--somethin' different!

    Cons: none--it's great!

Buy it and listen to it. It will grow on you and will soon become a favorite. It has a rock influence and a good old boy country influence and the title says it all it's an Electric Rodeo!

Shooter's new CD a close shot, not a bullseye

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jun 12, 2006

Pros: More Southern Rock Than Country

Cons: A Few Actual Country Songs

Shooter Jennings' new release, "Electric Rodeo" is an album that draws more influence from Lyyrd Skynyrd than from say Allan Jackson, or any other number of classic country stars. The title track (which also opens the album) is more of ...a rock song thn a country song. "Gone to Carolina" is where the Skynyrd influence comes into play. "Alligator Chomp" and "Mainfesto No. 2" will please purist country fans, and will be a secret pleasure for closet country fans. "Bad Magick" sounds a lot like the classic rock hit, "Turn the Page". while there are some more rock oriented songs, Jenning's new release will also please the purist country fans with the tracks, "Some Rowdy Women", "Hair of The Dog", "Aviators", and "It Ain't Easy". This is an album that will please both rockers and country fans alike, and shows that Jennings intends to be around for a long time. Read more Less

Pro Reviews: Electric Rodeo

  • All Music Guide

In a recent interview, Shooter Jennings claimed that Electric Rodeo was actually recorded before Put the "O" Back in Country, which was released first. Sonically, Electric Rodeo is louder, rawer, more upfront rock roll than its predecessor, though there are solid, oldschool country tunes here as well: the wild fiddle stomp of "Manifesto No. 2," and the broken love song "Aviators," with its spoken word intro and whinnying pedal steel. But as the title suggests, for the most part, Electric Rodeo is a hardcore, roaring countryrock record. Jennings' band Leroy Powell on guitar, Brian Keeling on drums, and Ted Kamp on bass with Robby Turner on steel, and backing vocals by no less than Bonnie Bramlett are a crack crew. They swagger and slither and stomp, but they know how to whisper, too. On tracks such as the title, "Little White Lines," "Bad Magick," and the jetpropelled swamp funk of "Alligator Chomp" with a guest vocal by Tony Joe White Jennings uses angular Texas blues, hard rock.../arena rock dynamics complete with Mac Truck volume guitars tight, big whomp drums, and the almighty riff to get his hellraising message across. There are also some more outlaw countrystyled cuts such as "It Ain't Easy," "Goin' to Carolina," "Some Rowdy Women," "The Song Is Still Slipping Away," and "Hair of the Dog." They recall the brand of historic country music Jennings' father helped to pioneer in the 1970s. The term "outlaw" is simply a musically descriptive word now; it's not meant to be a millstone around Shooter's neck even though he directly references Waylon often (and let's face it, if anyone has a right to do that, it's him). Electric Rodeo is solid; it's full of ragged road poetry, defiant rowdyism, and restless, ruststained, countrysoul, with plenty of its own charisma. - Thom Jurek, All Music Guide Read more Less

Biography

Shooter Jennings

The only son of country legends Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter, Shooter Jennings literally spent his childhood on a tour bus. Born Waylon Albright Jennings, Shooter was playing drums by the time he was five years old and had already begun taking piano lessons, only to break them off and follow his own path to an understanding of the instrument. He discovered guitar at... Read more
