Interesting!
, September 17, 2001Reviewer: C Mo - See all C Mo's reviewsAfter reading a couple of reviews concerning "Electric Cafe", it is strange to see how maligned this album is! I live in Detroit, and have most of my life; and next to "Computer World", which is hands down the best Kraftwerk album, this is the next most popular Kraftwerk album!!! (Sorry, Man Machine) I find it interesting that the very reasons "Boing Boom Tschak" was bashed elsewhere, it was LOVED here...Side 1 was played straight through at many a party in Detroit, and mixed religiously at club on Detroits' East Side...Musique Non Stop was an anthem in Detroit for years...Maybe where you are has a lot to do w/how you view music, but in a post industrial acid town like Detroit, the merits of "Electric Cafe" still stand, some 15 years later... ... -
The Ultimate Computer Music
, August 10, 2001Reviewer: kimp_1167 - See all kimp_1167's reviewsAlthough considered one of their worst albums, this one ranks as not only one of my favorite Kraftwerk albums, but one of my favorite albums period! The "Boing Boom Tschak/Techno Pop/Musique Non-stop" medley is everything computerized music should be. I fell in love with it instantly!!! "Telephone" and "Sex Object" are nice, but, unfortunately, the title track prevents this one from getting a perfect 5. All in all, I highly recommend it!

Pro Reviews: Electric Cafe
| EXPERT RATING: From AMG Reviews Five long years after Computer World, Kraftwerk finally resurfaced with another LP, Electric Cafe; the rest of the pop music industry having finally caught up with the group's vision, they no longer seem so innovative and inspired -- indeed, the record's brief running time (under 36 minutes) seems indicative of a lack of ideas and new directions, with the spartan opening tracks "Technopop" and "Musique Non-Stop" virtually interchangeable and the remaining cuts surprisingly mainstream in both form and content. - Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide |
