Election was sadly overlooked during the awards
phase of early 2000 by both the Oscars and the Golden
Globes. What is particularly fascinating about Election
is it's subtle commentary on America's electoral
process and the candidates who we select without due
reflection.
What I thought would be another moronic teen mess like
American Pie instead provided a pleasurable movie-going
experience.
A surprisingly underrated and remarkably original
film that thoroughly deserves all the critical praise
it has received. While it does take a while for the
story to get going, once it does you will not want to
leave your seat until the very end of the film. That is
largely due to a wonderful(Oscar-nominated
) script,
excellent direction and superb performances. Matthew
Broderick shows he has come a long way since his Ferris
Bueller days, whilst Reese Witherspoon puts her
performance in Cruel Intentions to shame. There were also
brilliant contributions from Chris Klein and Jessica
Campbell. And the music, whilst not really memorable, is
certainly well chosen.
Perhaps the film did get a
little cheesy at times, and as I've already mentioned it
started rather slowly. Yet these are minor faults in a
film which has shown, like American Beauty did after
it, that you do not need big-budget special effects
to find a winning formula.
if you havent seen this film i suggest you stop wasting time in go see , rent , buy the film that deserved at least an oscar nom for wonderful reese witherspoon. Reese carries every scene like shes her character and walks about the screen like the role is second nature. This girl can act.... I will watch all of her movies from now on. Dont believe she's that good, watch it ..you'll see.
This rates 4.5 stars with me, but that wasn't one of my options. Reese Witherspoon is perfect as the over-achieving student, and Matthew Broderick is so pitiful in his attempts to thwart her election campaign for class president. Thoroughly entertaining and hilarious from start to finish. Highly recommended.
This movie is really !@#$ed up, but I liked it. From that scene where M.B.'s charater went down stairs and uncovered his secret porno collection, I knew this movie was messed up.
This movie was just odd....I cannot necessarily explain it, but it was over dramatic or something.... some parts of it made me want to yell at Matthew Brodrick lol
I liked this movie, but something always seemed to ring false. Sometimes things were taken a bit to the extreme, but I was glued to the TV the whole time. It felt like voyeurism.
didn't want to see it, saw it anyway, and was blown away. totally funny.
just bought this movie on friend's recommendation. I loved it! Matthew Broderick and Reese Witherspoon are awesome.
