With their debut EP, Strange People's Parade Performed by El Musico, El Musico created an organic mix of Tom Waits and east European music, with hints of gypsies and Klezmer bands. On stage, the eight-person, multi-instrumentalist band acted like a wandering cabaret/east European brass band, complete with black ill-fitting suits, grating vocals, and old-fashioned horns. On their first full-length album, Themes From the Dusty Roads, they left some of the Eastern influences behind, concentrating more on the duets of Magnus Andreasson and Jenny Rangmar. The band has a reputation as a good live act, and even if the debut failed to receive much attention, it gave them a few prestigious festival gigs, for example at ~Roskilde 2001.
