Eight
Note:
This mix of historical fiction, thriller, and puzzler was written more than 10 years before THE DA VINCI CODE, but should appeal to the same fans. Two novices in 18th-century Revolutionary France get their hands on a chess set once owned by Charlemagne and possessed of great mystic power. To prevent that power from falling into evil hands, the girls hide the pieces in separate locations around the world. The novices' story is told concurrently with the adventures of Catherine "Cat" Velis, an American computer expert seeking the chess set in 1972.
