California-based singer Edgar Cortazar started getting involved in traditional Mexican music while participating in festivals around Mexico and Latin communities in the U.S. Cortazar became a songwriter in 1987, soon moving to North America looking for representation and the chance to get a record deal. That opportunity came in the late '90s when WEA signed him up, releasing a self-titled album in 1999. In the year 2000, Edgar Cortazar independently recorded his second album, called Tu Angel De La Guarda.
