    Pros: B-Sides, 1979 and 1980 live shows.

Cons: Incomplete live shows, missing A-Sides, B-Sides, live tracks.

All in all, this box set rocks pretty hard. All in Your Mind is a standout B-Side, as are Reach Out, the cover of Budgie's I Can't See my Feelings, and many many others. The 1979 and 1980 shows rock and give you a little insight into the ea...rly development of the band. It's too bad that Women in Uniform was not included, even if it was not technically a B-Side. I cannot imagine why the B-Side cover of the Thin Lizzy tune Massacre was left out. Also too bad that some key live stuff was left out, especially the tracks from Maiden Japan and the Castle reissue of Live After Death. The extras and the box itself are cool enough, but don't add so much to the value of the music package. I would have gladly given them up for a more complete collection of the music that cannot be found on any of Maiden's CD's currently in print.Still, I am glad I bought it and have been listening to much of it pretty much constantly since I got it. • All Music Guide

In November 2002, Legacy/Sony put out two Iron Maiden releases. One of them was a single-CD best-of collection titled Edward the Great: The Greatest Hits; the other was Eddie's Archives, a limited edition six-CD box set that contains no less than 77 tracks. And the two releases were aimed at different types of listeners. Edward the Great is for casual listeners; focusing on the British headbangers' more essential work -- that CD is a great starting point if you need a dose of Introductory Maiden 101. Eddie's Archives, however, is aimed at Maiden's most hardcore fans -- the sort of obsessive devotees who have all of the band's studio albums and have acquired every Maiden bootleg they could get their hands on. Eddie's Archives is devoted to rarities -- many of which were previously unavailable commercially -- and those rarities range from BBC broadcasts and live performances to the B-sides of various singles. The pre-1982 material features Maiden's original lead singer, Paul Di'Anno, alt...hough his successor, Bruce Dickinson, is heard most of the time. Obviously, this is a much bigger dose of Maiden than a casual listener would need to hear, but those who have a deeper interest in the band will find a lot to enjoy on Eddie's Archives -- in fact, serious Maiden devotees will find it to be a fantasy metal feast. Eddie's Archive is not cheap -- six-CD box sets seldom are -- and it isn't recommended to casual listeners, who would be much better off starting out with Edward the Great. However, this is an interesting set if you live and breathe Maiden and aren't on a budget. - Alex Henderson, All Music Guide Read more Less

Biography

Iron Maiden

Known for such powerful hits as "Two Minutes to Midnight" and "The Trooper," Iron Maiden was and is one of the most influential bands of the heavy metal genre. The often-imitated band existed for over 20 years, pumping out wild rock similar to Judas Priest. Iron Maiden has always been an underground attraction; although failing to ever obtain any real media attention in... Read more
