Voted drummer of the year 13 times (11 in a row) by the Academy of Country Music, Eddie Bayers originally started as a classical pianist, studying Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart. The son of a career military man, Bayers moved around as a child, spending equal time in Nashville, Oakland, and Philadelphia. After a stint playing in a New Jersey show band and working at San Franciscobased Fantasy Records in the late '60s, Bayers finally decided to call Nashville home, becoming the house keyboard player at Jimmy Hyde's Carousel Club. While playing at the club, Bayers also began doing sessions at Audio Media Studios. It was there that he began to emerge as a topnotch session drummer, playing on records by Tanya Tucker, John Denver, Ricky Skaggs, and George Strait among others. Bayers has begun producing as well, working on with Glen Campbell and Lane Brody.
