Pros: motorcycle driving free spirits!
Cons: the way the die, in the in!
an excellent movie of two men on their way to mardi gras, and while on their journy they meet new intresting friends, get stoned and have a peaceful, free loving easy time. this movie is most certaintly a must see!
Pros: EASY RIDER ~ One of my Greatest Life Adventures.
Cons: That we never made the sequel.
I was the Art Director / Production Designer on EASY RIDER, responsible for "Everything visual in front of the camera," including the Scenics, Sets, Costumes and of course, the famous Bikes (along with my tech support Staff - and the Hell's Angels). Dennis Hopper, Peter Fonda, Laslo Kovacs & Myself actually LIVED the roles of the characters as we crossed the country making the movie - fighting the locals & being 'psychedelic'! Most people had never seen a "Hippie" - but they knew they hated us. Long-haired bikers weren't welcomed, (So we often pretended to be a Rock Band passing through). It was a Dangerous & Exciting Adventure in America that I'll never forget! Today I write & illustrate Gothic Horror Novels & Movies --- Jeremy Kay, Santa Monica.
I AM BIG ON THESE TYPES OF MOVIES FROM THE 1960'S. I ENJOYED THIS FILM INTENSELY AND YOU WILL LIKE IT TOO. PLEASE BUY IT.
Great soundtrack with the freedom to ride shows what many bikers of today can enjoy, I do agree with the previous review, that biking during this time was not carefree and many were prejuduice toward a lifestyle like that. It only shows how far biking has changed now.
This movie accuratly describes that turbulent time in our history, when a generation awoke. It was a time, if you had long hair, for example, you didn't go to certain locations.
It's a movie that helps keep my head screwed on.
I am so tired of all you freakin' hippie wannabes hyping this movie as some great piece of work. I rated this movie at two stars only because of the great cinematography and soundtrack. I guess you had to live through those times in order to really get the movie. I was born in 1978, I have never had a problem with my freedom, never lived with a bunch of stoners in barn trying to raise my own crops for food, never ridden a Harley, or dropped acid. For the record, this is not Jack Nicholson's best performance ever...Have you seen two little movies called One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and The Shining? Jack was barely in this flick. Anyone who is blind enough to say that this was his best film should be smacked.
Without doubt, an absolute American classic. The acid tripping scene on its own is brilliant in its depiction of the scatalogical visions of heaven and hell, white kids lost in graveyards, a divided country filled with fear of freedom. One of the first major roles for Jack Nicholson who was buddies with Hopper and Fonda at the time, he plays the southern drunk who follows the two freedom riders on their increasingly ominous journey into unchartered territory. Reflecting very much the loose styles, and impressionistic vision of the era, this film in the 21st century is untouchable. Especialy memorable is the statcato editing style, that previews the new scene as a series of flashes just before it cuts to it properly. Baby, I dig it. The final sequence is impossible to forget, and it slams up against the optimisim and empowerment of that era like a ton of Nixons dropped from a B52. Buy it, own it, wether you like it or not, it's a goddam classic.
First of all this movie has been deemed one of the greatest movies of all time. The library of Congress list this movie as one to watch when one is studying this era. Secondly, Your spelling is awful, not to mention your grammar. I don't believe you rated it so poorly on it's content, I believe you did so based on the fact that your too slow to follow it!!
Probably one of the most over-rated movies of all
time, EASY RIDER is the story of two (Fonda & Hopper)
homosexual drug peddler/addicts who are finally gunned down
by southern patriots who are outraged at their
outlandish clothes and bad manners.
The saving graces
of this movie are, excellent acting by Jack
Nicholson; and the
zonked out drug expieriance of the
"heros" at a whorehouse-which inadvertenlty gives a
strong anti-drug message to the audience.
Fonda
conned Terry Southern into saying that Terry wrote the
script as a way of getting financing for this movie
fiasnco.
For those interested in real 1960's counter culture
moivies, "Getting Straight", Elliot Gould; "Who Will Stop
The Rain", Nick Nolte; and "Joe", Peter Boyle.
For those who are young businessmen and others that bow down to the man, stay away from this movie. If you want to look at a time too soon forgotten and if you are one of the few remaining long- hairs, definately check this out. While the ending will piss you off and make you want to hang a short hair, the movie makes you see thing in a new light. Road trips take on a new meaning.
One of the most influential movies of all times, Easy Rider is guaranteed to kick your ass biker style.
This film is a phenomenal portrayal of the 60's counter-culture vs. society. The characters are in search of a freedom they will never find, and yet their journey allows one to become intimate with their beliefs and to understand their mission. The theme of the film is accompanied by stunning shots of the American countryside as seen by our two chopper-riding heroes (Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper), as music by The Band, Hendrix, and Steppenwolf, among others, provides the soundtrack. Hopper proves himself a worthy director with this classic film, Fonda fits the part of Wyatt like a glove, and Nicholson gives one of the greatest performances of his career. His sweet, naive portrayal of attourney George Hansen is one to remember. By all means, see this film, and find out why people are still talking about it!
A must see aimed towards cult fans, and movie fans alike. A struggle between the elements of society and two travellers' ideals. Great soundtrack and story line. Superb performances all around for Hopper, Fonda, and a young Nicholson.
very dated movie...saturated with the hippie culture of the 60s. this film is a journey in itself, though, and goes beyond the times when it was filmed. what is freedom? also includes a sweet cameo by Jack Nicholson.
