I'm with them above.A very good, nay, truly great, pop record - which will undoubtedly be viewed through the "classic" prism in years to come - which revolutionised a moribund British rock scene, in that it took riffage from prime-era Metallica, and... then married this to melodies that any doo-wop group or barbershop quartet would maim to go to work on.A trip to Planet Wildheart was always a slightly edgy, but very interesting, night out.Kicks like an illegitimate son.The finest hard pop band from the U.K. in the last ten years, and more. Pro Reviews: Earth Vs. the Wildhearts

  • All Music Guide

Formed in 1990 by singer/guitarist Ginger (ex Quireboys and Throbs) and guitarist Chris "CJ" Jagdhar (ex Tattoed Love Boys), the Wildhearts augmented their sound with bassist Danny McCormack and drummer Andrew "Stidi" Stidolph. Following the release of two EPs (one a double), the U.K. band released a fulllength Earth Vs. the Wildhearts in late 1993 to critical acclaim and a string of chart singles (in their home country). Theirs is a propulsive, fullthrottle brand of rock, owing a debt to Motorhead and the Ramones. Clever lyrics and breakneck riffs abound, and it is impossible to not get caught up in the milewide hooks on virtually every cut, from "TV Tan" to "Suckerpunch." Mick Ronson adds guitar on the wry "My Baby Is a Headfuck" and the song "Caffeine Bomb" more than lives up to its name. Attitude, melody and rocksolid rhythms make Earth Vs. the Wildhearts a worthy debut.

Biography

The Wildhearts

The Wildhearts were the kind of band that the British rock press has wet dreams about: creatively brilliant, completely out-of-control, and utterly doomed from day one. Led by charismatic lunatic Ginger, the group's turbulent career lived up to the highest (or lowest, as it were) expectations, with all the ups and downs of a roller-coaster ride, which, after numerous fr... Read more
