    More than just candy

Angus Prime steak, potatoes, asparagus. After listening to this one, I feel I've had more than a bon-bon. With Ear Candy, the King's X trio distanced themselves from the artistic compromises they had been making, under pressure from Atlantic, to ma...ke it big. The result is an album that has more intimacy, touch, and soul than any of the other albums. As is typical of many great artists, the creative outburst after being freed from the shackles will survive as the greatest accompolishment of the band. Before Ear Candy, I would have had a hard time believing the band could have become any more sincere, honest, and genuine in its expression. The melodies and harmonies are all of highest quality, without the undisciplined digressions that can be found on previous albums; and, even on subsequent efforts. Gone are the six minute songs in odd meter that start to wear on the nerves. Gone are the simplistic head banging riffs of Dogman which were so distateful to Ty's artistic sensibilities. Ear Candy is King's X' emergence as mature artists- self-aware and self-assured. And, they have not looked back since. Read more Less

    King's X Ear Candy - My 2 Cents

Excellent album. Different in character than the first three albums (aren't they all different?) Definitely more melodic and "Beatle-esque." Great songs to sing along with. Mississippi Moon - great tune!Five stars . . .CC Rider"Buzzcanyon"http:/

Pro Reviews: Ear Candy

  • All Music Guide

Ear Candy is King's X most straight-forward album, lacking the art-rock tendencies of their earlier albums. What is left is a psychedelicized heavy metal, with swirling harmonies and guitar riffs. Although the album lacks a standout track on the level of "Over My Head," the songwriting maintains a consistently high level throughout the album.

Biography

King's X

Few hard rock bands are as widely respected yet criminally overlooked as King's X. The trio (bassist/vocalist Doug Pinnick, guitarist/vocalist Ty Tabor, and drummer/vocalist Jerry Gaskill) seemed destined for the big time with their irresistible blend of melodic Beatlesque harmonies, metallic riffing, and prog rock detours, yet for reasons unknown, never truly broke thr... Read more
