Some people should do their research before they go whining about not purchasing this "special editon". This set contains both new and old versions of the film, so relax guys.

Obviously, some folks have a huge chip on their shoulder about the 2002 "special edition" re-release of E.T. that included some changes by the director. But it's important to note that (contrary to several reviews posted here, and even the packaging ...of the discs themselves!) BOTH versions of the film are included. That means you can watch either the original or expanded version, or you can enjoy them both. Spielberg is to be commended for not letting the original vanish into the ether in the wake of his re-release. This is not the ET of my youth. I don't care if Speilberg thinks it's a better version. It is not the same movie. Why did he change it? Who the hell does he think he is? We paid all that money in the 80's for tickets which made Speilberg rich-rich-ri...ch. Now he changes the movie we loved so much. He airbrushes out guns to make his film more politically correct. He's destroyed what once was perfect. I don't care how great a director Speilberg is, he's an idiot for messing with a classic. Why would anyone do such a thing? It's not like he needs the money. this movie is a classic. i love it. the cast were really good in this film. it showed so much emotion and truth, too. i know that sounds kind of dorky. sorry for saying that.
