A fine old-time gospel singer and guitarist, Estil C. Ball (1913-1978) hailed from Rugby, VA, and performed with his wife Orna (b.1907) and The Friendly Gospel Singers. First recorded for the Library of Congress in 1938, Ball was recorded extensively in his later years by the County and Rounder labels. His lively, Travis-style guitar was an unusual element in traditional gospel singing.
