    "Magic Touch"...

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 15, 2006

Pros: More lead vocals from Ace

Cons: Last album with Peter Criss

This album is referred to as the "disco album" all because of the lead off track I Was Made For Lovin' You. The rest of the album isn't disco at all. Sadly, this is the last album Peter is on and his only contribution is vocals for ...Dirty Livin'. Anton Fig (of Ace's solo album, Frehley's Comet, and Dave Letterman's band) performs drum duty on all tracks. Standout songs include...I Was Made For Lovin' You, 2,000 Man, Sure Know Something, Charisma, and Hard Times. Read more Less

    Kiss - Dynasty (1979)

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 7, 2006

    Pros: Good mix of music.....

    Cons: Kinda sell-outish, but acceptable....

Kiss, 'back to basics' in 1979....after the solos albums and the greatest hits album known as "Double Platinum". Back to basics isnt always a smart move, and with Kiss' Dynasty that can be taken true. The actual last album with... all 4 original kiss members acting in somekind of coheisiveness (that a word?) untill like Kiss' Psycho Circus (which can be questionable)....comes off kinda "sell out"....but intersting moments as well:-) "I was made for loving you" of course is the big one here....Kicks off the album in a disco-ey vibe feel from hell...but good singing from Paul. Ace sings the next one...."2000 Man" the old stones cover from 1967 and pulls that off pretty good actually. "Sure know something" is a lil more in the sell out theme with more slower of a moving song but not the worse thing ever. The only sung, and probaly played Peter Criss song here..."Dirty livin" is up next, just an average song really, nothing special...Peters last hurrah. Gene finally comes aboard with "Charisma" which is a pretty fitting song about him of course...nicely done...My personal fav is next, "Magic Touch" one of the few real Kiss songs here that kicks your butt...sung by Paul. "Hard times" is another Ace song....pretty well done...."X ray eyes" is pretty standard fare...sung by Gene, then the closer 'ANOTHER' sung Ace song..."Save your love"..first time I saw Ace sing more than Gene on an album. Watch their apperance on Tom Snyders late night show back then...you'll see the ice breaking....Paul N Gene were serious and the other 2 were falling apart, hence Ace gone within next 2-3 years. Summing it up....Not the worse thing ever done, actually pretty enjoyable..it's not classic Kiss...but it works...open your mind, you may like it more! RR Read more Less

Pro Reviews: Dynasty

  • All Music Guide

Dynasty marked the first time that the original four members of Kiss didn't all appear together for the entire album session drummer Anton Fig subbed for Peter Criss due to the latter's erratic behavior and injuries sustained in a serious car crash. And even though it was a platinumplus smash, Dynasty marked the beginning of Kiss' unfocused period, which would ultimately end in a nosedive of the band's popularity, as well as Criss and Ace Frehley leaving the band by 1982. In latterday interviews, the band admitted that they started to listen to outsiders about what direction the music should go around the time of Dynasty. And since small children were a large part of Kiss' audience by 1979 (due to merchandising and the Godawful TV movie Kiss Meets the Phantom), the band began backing away from heavy metal and embracing pop. Included is their hit disco experiment, "I Was Made for Loving You" (it was as good as any other disco song of the late '70s), as well as "Sure Know Something," a ...melodic pop/rocker that should have also been a smash. Many other tracks would have been better if they weren't so glossed up (due to producer Vini Poncia), such as "Charisma," "Magic Touch," "Hard Times," and a great reworked cover of the Rolling Stones obscurity "2,000 Man." Not a horrible album (that distinction would go to 1981's The Elder), but certainly not on par with such classics as Hotter Than Hell, Destroyer, or Love Gun. - Greg Prato, All Music Guide Read more Less

Biography

Kiss

Rooted in the campy theatrics of Alice Cooper and the sleazy hard rock of glam rockers the New York Dolls, Kiss became a favorite of American teenagers in the '70s. Most kids were infatuated with the look of Kiss, not their music. Decked out in outrageously flamboyant costumes and makeup, the band fashioned a captivating stage show featuring dry ice, smoke bombs, elabor... Read more
