Cons: Huey's acting

If you dont take this movie too seriously, you will enjoy it. It is obviously chopped up, as there are many plot lines and many more things that must have been filmed, but ended up being cut. But it's still worth watching.
As far as the chopped up part goes, I would have enjoyed seeing the scenes that must have been cut between Giamatti and Braugher, more charchter development was needed there.
In my opinion, they made the movie.

I watch a lot of movies. When I first saw this movie I thought the only thing that was okay was Gwyneth singing. But then I just kept seeing it on all the time and after awhile I just thought it was the cutest movie. It's not Oscar worthy but it's a great movie to watch if your board and there is nothing else to watch but bass fishing. That little chubby guy is awesome every time I see him and his friend sing try a little tenderness I laugh my ass off. I think Gwyneth is great being a ditsy dumb blond. Who knew she could pull that one off? All and all for all of you who said it was a pile of shite I will say give it another chance and maybe just maybe you'll start to like it too.

I think the other reviewers saw a different movie than I did. In my opinion, Duets REEKED. Plot holes you could drive a truck through, an implausible script, and left questions irritatingly unanswered. I felt chafed and enraged that I gave this movie two hours of my life and I can never get them back.
As far as the actors go, Gwyneth Paltrow's character was so dislikable, that it overshadowed her hatefully decent singing voice. Even though Huey Lewis' character was a jerk, I still liked him. And I would have cheerfully strangled Scott Speedman's character, even though he's a babe.
There was a grand total of two scenes that I really enjoyed. The rest was a waste of time, celluloid, and money. You're just as well off watching reruns of

Makes this film worth watching, and Maria Bello is ravishing, and sinfully delicious.

Quite surpising, Gweneth can REALLY sing, although the studio tracks help ensure the quality vocals. The final song on the closing credits with Gweneth, and Babyface was probably her best work for the film, although Huey was awesome, and Maria ripped a few killer tracks. Of course, what can be said about Andrew, he has got to have one of the purest voices in the cast.

The movie had a somewhat complicated plot, working hard to develop the different characters, and bring them all together in Omaha. At times, it was a little goofy, almost unrealistic, and at times, hilarious, and poignant.

Not many "musicals" are done these days, but this was a refreshing change, and will be a welcome addition to my personal collection. I'd recommend a rental, and if you like it as much as I did, purchase it, it won't grow old.

Duets is a magical musical journey and a great film and with the great cast and the top soundtrack this is one great movie which is a must for any DVD collection
