The blistering Drive Like Jehu was one of two San Diego-based bands featuring guitarist John "Speedo" Reis, better known as the frontman of Rocket from the Crypt. Formed in August 1990 and rounded out by vocalist/guitarist Rick Farr (a.k.a. Eric Froberg), bassist Mike Kennedy and drummer Mark Trombino, the band's intricate dual guitar interplay and fierce rhythms quickly earned them a deal with indie label Headhunter, which released their self-titled debut in 1992. A single on Merge followed before Drive Like Jehu followed Rocket From the Crypt's lead onto Interscope Records for 1994's excellent Yank Crime.
