A hilarious classic

This is a great movie. It is a dark comedy about the whole idea of mutually assured destruction and the whole idea of nuclear weapons. This movie was created when the Cold War between Russia and America was at it's height so it's no wonder the commentary is strong. Even though this movie is old, it still has relevance today.
Although it is hilarious, it has a message. The film is in black and white, which most viewers today hate, but you really don't notice it too much and it fits with the whole theme of the movie. It wouldn't be as good if it was in color.

Pros: Dark, Hilarious, Intellectual

"It is the stated position of the US Air Force that their safeguards would prevent the occurance of such events as are depicted in this film." So opens one of the greatest films ever made. Stanley Kubrick's dark, hilarious look at nuclear war; this is a timeless classic with crazy characters, geat lines, wacky logic, political satire, and dark beauty. While it is visually outdated, the story told is as poignant today as when released following the Cuban Missile Crisis. Look for it in infrequent theater showings (Laurelhurst) and hum along with the crowd.

Pros: Almost believable Conversations.
Cons: Rated as a comedy to avoid upseting powers.
For those of us slightly wrinklies who were teenagers in the 60's this was the ultimate disaster movie of the decade.
All these years later it is still the masterpiece it was on release then and clearly appeals to newer generations of political sceptics.

Pros: Comical and somewhat accurate satire of the arms race.
Cons: It takes a little time to develop and lacks some kind of plot.
Other than the few and minute "cons" that I have written, this movie is one of the best fo the best movies ever made because it is just SO FUNNY!!

this movie took the battle to the enemy that is US "HUMANITY" to make fun of our stupidity. Yes we live in a world that never before the invention of the "BIG-ONE" has the capablilty of destroying ALL carbon based life forms on this planet (a damn cockroach WOULD die also) This unique planet among all others in the vast LIMITLESS universe contains carbon based life forms which includes the unique species known as "HUMANITY" YES WE CAN KILL OURSLEVES

When I first saw this movie, I didn't know what to think about it. But the more I saw it, the better it got. Peter Sellars gave a magnificent preformance(in three roles). George C. Scott was great as the general and the rest of the cast was great. I highly recommend this movie to all comedy lovers.

I recently purchased this DVD as I had not seen the movie for years. I have watched it 3 times in the last 2 months and it gets better every time. Outstanding cast and script with a cynical humour that unfortunately was/is all to real. You have to love lines like "We did'nt want to have a doomsday gap". No one rides a bomb all the way down like Slim Pickens!!!!!!!!

This movie has it all-the brilliance of Stanley Kubrick combined with the superb acting of Peter Sellers and George C. Scott. It is incredibly funny. Even though it is dated, its themes translate into our time. The only problem I have is that the disc does not include anything from the infamous cream pie alternate ending.

As a current B52H navigator, I gotta say they werent too far off with the recreation of the plane. You cant stand up in the plane though. And the bombbay was way off, but still it wasnt that bad. The SAC room with its giant screens and charts made me laugh. Im rather joyuous SAC(strategic air command, now air combat command) is gone and hope it never comes back. This moves deffinatly reminds people like me what the cold war was like back then. Its deffinatly worth a view. Also the B52 doesnt go that fast. If we ever did, the wings would be ripped off.

I think that this and "Full Metal Jacket" are Stanley Kubrick's finest work. He has such skill with the placement of the cameras and in casting such brilliant actors that I'm thoroughly entertained each and every time I watch this film.

If you are too young to remember the height of the cold war and the fear that gripped this nation then you may have a hard time enjoying this film. However if you can let yourself slip back in time and watch this movie in the context that was intended then you will be thoroughly satisfied. This movie catches the madness and the dark, almost surreal irony of that time period when we were on the brink of a Nuclear War brought on by a miscalculation and manical generals that wanted to rule the world. Put yourself in that period of time for two hours and you will love this movie.

This is a fabulous movie, Even though it was a parody & social warning when originally produced -- it holds up as a historical look at the machinery and politics at the height of the "Cold War" .

i have loved this since i was a child.george c scott is outrageous; peter sellers shines, especially as the tourette's afflicted strangelove; and slim pickens wrangling a nuclear bomb like a bucking bronco on the way to oblivion is must-see. stanley kubrick's finest film.

Kubrik made the last really great political satire; it doesn't hit you over the head with obvious "jokes" or slapstick, but lets each character develop naturally and express a serious point of view that simply points up the absurdity of their "reality" ... no one has done it better since, and if you haven't seen this film, do it now!

The best scary movie about the BOMB ever written.. realistic war sequences along with suttle comedy. Peter Sellers deserved an oscar for his performance. 10 out of 10 stars.. in beautiful black and white.

Remember how many people you've heard lately, (Since 9-11 anyway) say stuff like "just nuke-em and let God sort them out". They're just dumb enough to think thats an answer and I'll tell ya that scares the hell out of me!
